About the Role
This role of an Engineering Manager (Integration) is a leadership role within Coles Technology. Reporting into the Platform Manager, you will drive the adoption, evolution, and maintenance of integration engineering capabilities. Your role will be pivotal in creating platform integrity, accelerating modernisation, enabling self-service, and unlocking efficiencies across our technology ecosystem.
Accountable for building, enhancing, and maintaining integration platforms to support business applications. Oversee multiple projects and engagements, ensuring alignment with business objectives. Lead and influence the technical direction of product engineering across squads. Act as a service custodian, ensuring seamless operation, security, and compliance of integration platforms. Manage the cost centre budget and oversee project funding. Lead multiple squads of engineers, fostering a high-performance culture. Work with the platform manager to define the engineering vision, strategy, and roadmap and orchestrate the execution of the strategy\roadmap with the engineering team Drive user experience sessions with stakeholders to enhance product usability. Partner with cross-functional teams to align platform features with business needs. Ensure compliance with internal policies, industry regulations, and legal obligations. Drive a customer-first approach by embedding best engineering practices. Lead vendor and stakeholder management, including negotiating contracts and service agreements.
About You and Your Skills
Proven IT leadership experience as a Digital, Product, or Engineering Manager in an agile environment. Demonstrated expertise in large-scale integration modernisation within a hybrid cloud environment. Strong experience with API Management Platforms (Azure API Management, Apigee, Kong, etc.). Deep understanding of messaging services (Kafka, IBM MQ, Azure Event Hub, Google Pub/Sub). Experience with enterprise scheduling (Control-M, Airflow) and managed file transfer solutions. Hands-on experience integrating digital applications, packaged applications (SAP), and SaaS platforms. Knowledge of on-prem, cloud-native, containerised, and serverless deployments. Understanding of security controls (PII, PCI obligations) and compliance standards. Proven track record in managing teams of 50+ engineers, fostering innovation, and driving delivery excellence. Strong vendor management experience, including negotiating contracts and managing external partners. Solid budgeting, forecasting, and financial management skills. Excellent stakeholder management skills, influencing cross-functional teams and senior leadership. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Commercial Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field. Deep market knowledge in retail and technology solutions. Expertise in Agile, DevOps, and integration best practices. Strong financial and risk management capabilities. What’s in it for you?
