Engineering Manager - Incident Management

Manages a small to medium-sized team with as much focus on engineering execution/leadership as all other areas of management. - Works with Product Managers to set the direction for the product.
- Manages backlog, balancing new requests with priorities for the team.
- Writes a significant amount of high quality code, striking a balance between coding and management.
- Ensures team consistently ships high quality code & architecture.
- Takes responsibility when problems occur, and has the plan for the next 5 things to make the system much better.
- Participates in team oncall rotation.
- Owns the productivity of the team; runs appropriate processes (e.g. measurable goals, milestones, sprint planning, reviews) to keep the team on track delivering.
- Removes roadblocks (technical, procedural, etc) that prevent the team from doing its best work.
- Works with Product Managers to set the direction for the product.
- Manages backlog, balancing new requests with priorities for the team.
- Manages the engineers on the team, keeping them happy, challenged, motivated, and growing professionally.
- Delegates responsibilities to team members in order to help them grow, e.g. empowers senior engineers as technical leaders on their team.
- Helps identify career growth opportunities.
- Monitors progress and provides direct and regular feedback to team members
Works on problems of diverse scope. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, evaluating, adapting of complex techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Work is reviewed upon completion and is consistent with departmental objectives. Work is done independently and is reviewed at critical points. Typically requires a 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree, or 3 years and a Master’s degree. Supervisory: Yes.
