What You’ll Do:

As an intern at James Hardie, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in your chosen field, whether it be HR, Engineering, Finance, Marketing, IT, or another function. This is a 12-week paid internship program designed to provide you with valuable insights into the industry, enhance your skills, and prepare you for a successful career. You will work closely with experienced professionals, contributing to real projects that impact our business. Additionally, you will have access to exclusive mentoring opportunities to help guide your professional development.

 

General Responsibilities:

Work with team members on diverse projects and tasks. Perform research and analysis to aid project objectives. Create reports, presentations, and necessary documentation. Engage in team meetings and share ideas. Learn and implement industry best practices and company standards.

 

Function Specific Responsibilities:

As an engineering intern, several opportunities exist to be involved with some or all of the following: Data analysis Pull reject data, finished goods audit data, and green sheet audit data, by product across several runs. Analyze the data to find correlation between green sheet audits, rejects, and finished good audits, as it pertains to the effectiveness of the audit systems to find issues. Spec capability analysis Opportunity to investigate one or two product specifications to find the following: What is the capability of that specification across products with different thicknesses, densities, and patterns. Based on baseline specification analysis, there will be an opportunity to find potential solutions to improve the capability. Depending on the outcome and spec, decide to shift the mean or reduce variation. Roughness measurement systems – Investigate the current roughness measurement system with the intent to complete the following. Determine capability of the current system to provide data that aligns with the visual nature of the product. Look for opportunities to improve the current system and how it correlates to the visual nature of the product. Look for portable options to measure roughness during finished goods audits. Determine repeatability of the portable unit. Correlate the portable data to lab-based unit. Depending on the cost of the unit, there could be an opportunity to draft a capital expenditure request to purchase the units for our sites. Technical and persuasive writing to gain approval for the funds.

What You’ll Bring:

Must be enrolled in a bachelor's program in a relevant discipline at an accredited university, with an anticipated graduation date between December 2025 and May 2027 (rising junior or rising senior). Demonstrated strong academic performance with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Must be available to work full-time for 12 weeks during the summer of 2025. Must have reliable transportation to and from the work location. Must be authorized to work in the US.

 

Function Specific Skills 

In this role, you will need some of the following skills. Statistics – ANOVA, Control charting, Distribution analysis Technical writing – Ability to complete investigations or analysis and provide technical reports to the team, with the intent to drive a decision for process or equipment improvement. Communication – Ability to investigate and understand the technical attributes and communicate to other technical peers as well as non- technical peers is desired.
