Job DescriptionAs Engineering Risk Specialist you will provide services as required and your responsibilities will include but not limited to:
Engineering Solutions and ApplicationEmploy structured methodologies, such as root cause and statistical analyses, to evaluate engineering risks and identify opportunities for effective solutions. Apply systematic problem-solving approaches to test assumptions and develop actionable engineering options.Collaborate with stakeholders to resolve technical and operational risks, implementing solutions that enhance engineering efficiency and reliability.Apply advanced knowledge of mechanical engineering principles—including thermodynamics, mechanics, and structural analysis—to design, maintain, and improve engineering systems that comply with relevant codes of practice and Group Technical Standards.Leverage broad expertise in mechanical engineering to select appropriate tools, provide technical guidance, and resolve engineering risks effectively.Conduct and approve design reviews to ensure engineering solutions meet safety and quality standards.Facilitate the execution of engineering solutions in projects and operations by utilising project management skills, optimising resource allocation, and mitigating risks.Assist in developing technical engineering designs by supporting draftsmen and ensuring alignment with risk mitigation objectives.Implement best practices in engineering risk management for ad hoc tasks and project-specific challenges.Risk Assessment and MitigationPerform detailed risk analyses to identify high-impact engineering hazards and propose risk-reduction measures for safe operations and systems.Enhance safety in engineering systems by identifying risk factors and implementing continuous improvement strategies.Assess and review the design, quality, and modifications of infrastructure, equipment, and environments to support risk evaluations.Provide actionable risk insights to optimise asset management and reduce operational vulnerabilities.Proactively monitor engineering risk factors and execute mitigation strategies to ensure safe and efficient system performance.Manage contractor risks by enforcing compliance with safety protocols and minimising potential hazards.Advise engineering leadership on risk improvement opportunities, driving alignment with best practices and regulatory standards.Ensure compliance with legal and safety requirements across engineering operations, safeguarding regulatory adherence and operational integrity.Promote safety by implementing effective housekeeping practices and conducting audits, inspections, and observations to identify and address potential risks.Demonstrate proactive safety leadership by participating in safety audits and resolving identified issues promptly.Risk Management Enhancements and Capability BuildingDevelop and execute emergency response plans for engineering-related incidents, incorporating lessons learned from past events.Analyse risk trends using data analytics to uncover patterns and inform proactive measures.Contribute to projects to strengthen the risk management framework and refine safety protocols for engineering operations.Conduct training sessions to enhance team capabilities in engineering risk management and safety practices.Collaborate with multidisciplinary experts to address complex engineering risks and integrate cross-functional solutions.Harness advanced technologies, such as digital twins, predictive analytics, and IoT systems, to improve risk detection and mitigation capabilities.Stakeholder Relationship ManagementCultivate strong relationships with internal teams to align engineering risk strategies with organisational objectives.Collaborate with stakeholders to deliver specialised risk management solutions, ensuring effective communication and integration.Compliance and Continuous ImprovementFacilitate audits and investigations to evaluate engineering risks, coordinating resources effectively and ensuring actionable outcomes.Complete audit close-outs and share key learnings to drive compliance and inform future improvements.
This role is in the Engineering & Maintenance (E&M) at a Band 6 level reporting to the Discipline Mechanical Engineer.

3-5 years of experience in risk management within an engineering environment. Relevant experience in an Engineering Management role within the Mining Industry (preferably in projects).Operational experience within the design environment (technical drawings).Expertise in hazard identification and engineering-specific risk management.Advanced knowledge of Job Risk Assessment (JRA) processes.Proficiency in SHE-compliance tools (e.g., Passport 360).Thorough understanding of incident investigation methodologies.Additional InformationWhat we offer
