The Container Engineering Specialist has the primary responsibility to facilitate Engineering, Inspection and related activities associated with Intermodal and Offshore Container certification.  The Specialist is to become familiar with the overall certification process and qualified in those procedures applicable to Engineering design review of containers. The Specialist will also become familiar with the Inspection process and procedures to support ABS staff and clientele. Additional administrative duties are required to support the department in maintaining Competent Authority approvals and the Container Certification Firm (CCF) program.  The Specialist is to remain organized and ensure his/her work is accurate, complete, and properly retained.  

What You Will Do

This is a dynamic role supporting the department and other ABS personnel and is not limited to those items identified in this description.

Process additional unit applications Design review of Intermodal and Offshore Containers, new designs and modifications and revisions of existing designs. Administrative support in maintaining Competent Authority approvals. Administrative support in maintaining the Container Certification Firm (CCF) program. Quality assurance and control of container documentation. Assist in the development of ABS Rules, Guides, and procedures. Assist in the development and maintenance of databases used in the container certification process.

What You Will Need:

Education and Experience

Associates Technical Degree / Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent. Container knowledge a plus. An entry level position for new graduates and/or those candidates with less than five (5) years’ experience in an applicable industry.

Excellent communication skills to effectively support ABS Engineers, Inspectors, and clientele.
