**Job Summary:**
Caterpillar Trimble Control Technologies (CTCT) is a joint venture between Caterpillar Inc. and Trimble Inc. whose purpose is to transform the way heavy equipment customers shape the world with solutions that differentiate Caterpillar Inc. and Trimble Inc.
The Verification and Validation Lead Engineer will be part of CTCTs Electronic Hardware development team, specifically accountable for the verification and validation of Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs) and Angle Sensors. This position enables CTCTs product development team to deliver robust, high quality hardware solutions optimized for performance, cost, and reliability. This is an exciting role that spans many engineering disciplines across all phases of a products lifecycle. There will be elements of electrical, mechanical, systems, firmware, manufacturing, machine testing, and any other discipline that is required to verify and validate our innovative products.
**What You Will Do:**
+ The product scope of this role will include new technology, new products, and product improvement activities for Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs) and other machine sensing technology components.
+ Work within a product team structure alongside Product Managers, Technical Leads, and Program Managers to provide verification and validation expertise. The primary deliverable are plans that enable product development teams to effectively and efficiently demonstrate risk mitigations are successful and to effectively communicate those results.
+ Assist with the use and execution of product risk management tools to help identify product risks, mitigations, and subsequent verification activities.
+ Verification and validation scope for this role spans multitude venues such as virtual, lab, bench, hardware in the loop, environmental, on-machine, and end-user application testing.
+ Plan and coordinate verification and validation activities across these venues that includes in-house lab facilities and machine test sites. Outsource specialized tests when necessary.
+ Ensure that the execution of verification and validation activities is done properly, evaluated against established acceptance criteria/standards, and are documented appropriately.
+ Create standard validation workflows for new product development and sustainment activities.
+ Provide technical recommendations from analysis of verification and validation activities to product development teams.
**Education requirement:**
Requires a degree in an accredited Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering curriculum.

+ Ability to develop product verification/validation strategies and test plans as an output of product risk assessments.
+ Working knowledge of testing venue capabilities and limitations. Reconcile short-term and long-term needs as it relates to verification and validation assets and resources.
+ Expert in providing technical recommendations from verification and validation findings.
**Effective Communications:**
+ Ability to present Product Validation Status at program reviews in a clear, concise, and effective manner.
+ Expert at effectively communicating through verification and validation test reports.
+ Working knowledge of standard work creation, updating, and socialization processes as needed is needed for verification and validation activities.
+ Ability to capture lessons learned and implement continuous improvements.
**Technical Excellence**
+ Working knowledge of many different disciplines that are required to develop electronic products.
+ Working knowledge of durability and reliability engineering concepts and how to apply them to verification and validation activities.
+ Working knowledge of product lifecycle and associated verification and validation needs across functional areas.
+ Working knowledge of diagnostics and events strategies and associated verification and validation activities.
+ Working knowledge of regulatory requirements and associated verification and validation activities.
+ Basic understanding of functional safety and cybersecurity and associated verification and validation activities.
+ Expert at driving the usage of risk management tools such as Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEAs) and Design Verification Plan & Reports (DVP&R).
+ Expert in understanding testing venue capabilities and limitations relative to product applications and requirements.
**Project Management**
+ Expert in developing plans that systematically demonstrate product risk is/is not mitigated.
+ Able to ensure verification and validation activities are planned, sequenced appropriately, and are coordinated across various teams to execute. This requires collaboration with program and project managers, as well as numerous other functional areas.
+ Ability to perform job responsibilities for numerous in-flight product development programs as well as for product sustaining work.
**Product Testing**
+ Familiarity with various testing environments for electronic components, including lab, simulation, bench, automated testing, and machine-based setups, among others.
+ Proven ability to ensure that verification and validation activities are thoroughly executed and assessed against defined acceptance criteria. This includes, but is not limited to, environmental, functional, performance, and margin testing.
+ Accountable to ensure that all test documentation is compiled, complete, communicated, and archived.

The location for this position is Dayton, OH

**Summary Pay Range:**
$126,000.00 - $189,000.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
