Engineering Specialist - Stamping - Automation

In this position... 

This is a senior level position in the field of press room controls engineering. The role of the Controls Engineer is to troubleshoot, maintain and improve press room related equipment in an active automotive production environment. The press room consists of two large Komatsu transfer presses, 8 single action Komatsu presses, 1 double action Komatsu press, 1 JIER stretch draw, 1 Schuler tryout Press and an AP1 FAGOR prog press, 15 ABB robots and 8 Kuka robots. 

You'll have... 

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical experience or degree.More than three (3) years of experience in press controls and/or automotive field.Employee is an expert in PLC programming and troubleshooting. Can navigate Siemens, Allen Bradley, and Square D to determine root cause of breakdowns.Understand and troubleshoot processors and input/output cards whether field or remote.Proficient using AutoCAD Electrical to create control device layout schematics and control panels drawings. Modify & update existing drawings as changes occur.Exemplary electrical testing and troubleshooting skills are required, to include using meter/megger where needed to find shorts, opens, voltage, resistance etc.Understanding of panel design including back panel layouts, power consumption and hardware sizing is required.The ability to read and interpret documents such as functional specifications, technical specifications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.Employee is skilled in PC usage and associated software including Microsoft office (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint).Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

What you'll do...

Write/troubleshoot  PLC programming using Siemens, Square D, PLC 5, Logix 500, Logix 5000 PLC software. The PLC programs in production control large stamping presses to include Komatsu transfer, Komatsu tandem, JIER tandem, and FAGOR prog. Design controls hardware infrastructures using Ethernet/IP, Profinet, DeviceNET, Serial Communications and occasionally Profibus.Set-up and/or troubleshoot field devices, i.e. motion control devices (VFD’s, servo’s, etc.), sick scanners, transducers, encoders, limit switches etc.Update or troubleshoot HMI (Human/Machine Interface) to include robots, presses, MOC’s, Vision, UPS’s VFD’s, Rexroth cushion etc.Update and design control panels, creating panel layout drawings with regards to new projects or in production improvements. Creation of wiring schematics using AutoCAD-Electrical. This includes the development of new standards for control panel design and keeping up to date on NEC and UL508 requirements.Perform project management functions (budget, schedule, procurement) for the controls portion of any project. Assist with overall project scheduling. Work with project personnel and vendors to ensure scope of work, parts lead times, manpower requirements and cost aligns with overall objective.Be able to work with electrical installation subcontractors in the procurement process for implementing pipe and wire installation.Ability to communicate with internal groups of different disciplines as well as external customers and suppliers.Overtime may be necessary as work load’s dictate. This may include weekdays, weekends, and/or holidays.Mentor/train UAW electricians during project design and implementation.Lead non-project quotes for controls related high hurts for next year funding requests.Help troubleshoot the most complex issues on all projects. The employee may be expected to travel to a site with a complex issue, on short notice, and help resolve it in a timely manner.Backup and restore PLC’s, PC’s, Robots, HMI’s etc.
