About the role 

 

As a leader in the Cloud Platforms and SRE Chapter, you will head a team focused on optimizing engineering workflows and reducing friction. Using a data-driven approach, you will identify bottlenecks and ensure Developer Experience engineers collaborate effectively with engineering squads.  

You will work closely with stakeholders to prioritize impactful improvements that enhance productivity. Each squad, led by an Engineering Squad Lead, relies on your leadership to streamline processes, resolve challenges, and drive continuous improvement while aligning technical efforts with business goals. Your role is crucial in shaping a high-performance, efficient engineering environment. 

 

Responsibilities 

 

Lead a team focused on enhancing the engineering workflow by reducing friction, ensuring smoother processes for engineers. Utilize a data-driven approach to identify bottlenecks and implement solutions to improve efficiency and productivity. Engage with Engineering Squad Leads and other key stakeholders to ensure that the Developer Experience engineers are prioritizing the right tasks at the right time. Ensure Developer Experience engineers are closely integrated with engineering squads, supporting workflow enhancements that positively impact engineering output and efficiency. Take responsibility for the planning and execution of squad deliverables, ensuring alignment with customer and engineering outcomes.  Support continuous improvement initiatives within the squad, leveraging tooling, best practices, and effective ways of working. Provide coaching, feedback, and mentorship to team members, aiding in their professional growth and performance development. Communicate a clear vision and direction for the squad, leveraging your software engineering experience and leadership capabilities to drive team performance and impact. Foster a culture of collaboration both within the squad and across teams, ensuring clear communication on quality, people, and process requirements.  Implement effective performance management processes for squad members, setting goals and monitoring progress to ensure the achievement of objectives. Support personal and professional development through structured feedback and guidance. Promote and cultivate an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performing squad culture.  What you'll bring

Skills and experience 

 

High technical skills and understanding of the engineering practices that will allow you to come up with solutions for engineers that solve their day-to-day workflow problems Understanding of infrastructure as code and the ability to take part in code reviews  Experience with one (AWS/GCP/Azure) or more (ideally) cloud providers Considerable experience within the appreciation/understanding of developing software with quality.  Broad understanding of the tech industry, markets, trends, emerging technologies, and their implications for retail organisations  Experience of shaping, motivating, and driving change within a large, complex, matrix and fast-moving environment.  Excellent stakeholder management & influencing skills at all levels of the organisation with great communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.  Effective and creative problem-solving and decision-making with the ability to navigate complexity and ambiguity to quickly identify simple/effective solutions.  Talented people leader, coaching, mentoring, facilitation, and teaching, whilst developing a pipeline of future talent. Excellent command of English (written and spoken)
