Who will you be working with?

You'll be joining our innovative Wabtec Bus Solutions division, a team dedicated to developing leading systems for the Transit Bus & Rail industries including eBus charging systems, innovative passenger door systems, access ramps, and wheelchair lifts. Our group combines technical expertise with a deep understanding of product requirements to deliver industry-leading solutions and lasting value to our customers and the communities they serve. You will be at the forefront of developing advanced control systems and software for cutting-edge solutions that will shape the future of public transit.

How will you make a difference?

As a member of the Wabtec Bus Solutions division, you will lead the software and firmware engineering team to drive design and development in embedded control systems, software architectures, and AI/ML solutions for doors, ramps, lifts, charging systems, and other products. You'll ensure compliance with industry standards, collaborate with stakeholders, and report directly to the Director of Product Engineering & Product Management.

What do we want to know about you?

You may be a good fit if you have:

Bachelor’s in computer/software engineering or related field10+ years in engineering, with 3+ years in technical leadership or project managementExpertise in real-time embedded systems and C/C++ programmingStrong knowledge of control systems, cybersecurity, and software development lifecycleProficiency in agile methodologies, version control, and CI/CD workflowsExperience with machine learning, bare metal development on ARM coresFamiliarity with vehicle-level technologies (e.g., CAN J1939)Familiarity with digital design/embedded hardware is a plusProven success leading people and project management for software productsExcellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skillsProficiency in project management and software development toolsDemonstrated ability to drive change and innovation

What will your typical day look like?

Oversee design and development of software, firmware, and sensing products for bus/rail systemsLead and develop a team of local and remote embedded software engineersSet team goals, priorities, provide coaching, and clear feedbackEvaluate software changes, participate in reviews, and enforce development processesDrive innovation in control systems, software products, and machine learning systemsManage projects from concept to production launchCollaborate with customers and stakeholdersEnsure compliance with industry standards and safety regulationsChampion best practices in software developmentParticipate in technical discussions with customersDrive initiatives to maintain Bus Solutions' market leadershipGrow and mentor team to improve long-term resultsDevelop and enforce processes for timely, cost-effective, quality deliverables

What about the physical demands of the job?

Primarily office-based work at the Buffalo Grove officeOccasional visits to manufacturing sitesAbility to use a computer for extended periods.Occasionally lift twenty-five poundsUp to 15% travel to customer sites - may require walking and navigating facilities
