POSITION SUMMARY: Performs general maintenance and engineering repairs to hospital owned buildings and equipment in accordance with diagrams, manufacturer's manuals using hand and power tools. Equipment to be repaired includes, but is not limited to: beds; patient room equipment; electrical wiring including lights; switches; receptacles; panels; motors; controllers; plumbing systems; boilers; steam lines and condensate lines; generators; medical gas systems; and associated equipment; HVAC units; motors; control systems; telephone systems, changing filters, belts, and cleaning of coils. Will possibly be called upon to do light carpentry, painting, plastering, tile and carpet laying, masonry work, roofing repairs, and possibly moving and lighting of burners in the kitchen when needed. The following activities are unique to this position: Executive preventive maintenance schedules, maintains constant alertness to needed repairs and replacement. Routine inspection of hospital equipment and buildings. Takes call on a rotating basis during non-working hours in accordance with departmental policies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduate with general maintenance and plant operation abilities. Trade school certificate beyond high school. Must be familiar with JCAHO, N.F.P.A., and Life Safety regulations and procedures. Generally familiar with all hospital equipment; building maintenance techniques a must. Ability to take lead in times of Directors absence. Electrical experience - four years minimum in commercial and industrial. Electrical license preferred but not required. Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate cases of trouble. Gas fried boiler operations and experience, gas fired steam generating boilers - four years minimum. On the job experience, commercial and industrial - two years experience required in plumbing P.L.C.'s pneumatic controllers.
