Engineering Technician - 2nd Shift

Job Description:

Mueller’s manufacturing commitment ensures one of the world’s most precious resources, clean drinking water, reaches millions of people daily.  Come be a part of something that sustains and enriches the lives of every human being.  As an Engineering Technician, you will support operations by creating CNC programs for production machinery including the CNC machining centers utilizing 3, 4, & 5th axis.  You will also support continuous improvement through process improvements and documentation.  This may include tooling identification, fixture designs, flow improvements, and more. 

Primary Responsibilities:

Create machine programs for different machining centers including horizontal boring mills, vertical mills, vertical lathes, horizontal lathes, & mill-turn machining centers using G-code, CAM, etc. This involves importing models, setting up program definitions of stock, tooling, cut path parameters, etc.Develop fixturing layouts & setupsDevelop tooling sheetsRead and interpret blueprints, engineering plans, material documents, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).Work within the operational team supporting day-to-day problems and improvements.Document processes to create work instructions to verify consistency of shop processes. Work closely with other engineers to provide directional recommendations by evaluating production times, reviewing scheduling practices, and estimating future requirements.Recommend and implement cost savings projects related to materials, processes, and time savings.Maintain safety and quality as top priorities in all endeavors.Coordinate with planning and production teams to ensure timely order production and production schedule maintenance.Maintain safe operations by adhering to all relevant safety guidelines, procedures, and regulations and flagging any equipment or safety issues to the appropriate team lead, supervisor, maintenance, or EHS personnel utilizing “Stop, Call, Wait” procedure.Perform other routine duties as directed.

Required Skills:

Ability to read and interpret blueprints and product drawings.Ability to program Fanuc & Siemens machine controllersAbility to use CAM software (particularly MasterCAM)Advanced math skills with the ability to understand measuring/measurement concepts and their applications.Ability to read and use micrometer calipers and other measuring devices.Mechanical aptitude to assist in trouble shooting and fixture design.Strong personal commitment to safety standards in industrial and/or manufacturing environments.Ability to utilize standard PC software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.Team player with excellent written and communication skills.

Required Education/Experience:

High School Diploma/GED equivalent required or a WorkKeys Score of 3 on Tests for Applied Math, Graphic Literacy, and Workplace Documents.5+ years machine shop experience, with hands on programming, fixture development, etc.Proven experience in delivering solutions to production-related problems.Working knowledge of drafting and modeling software such as AutoCAD and / or Solidworks

Preferred:

Associates or bachelor’s degree in relevant field related to machining & machine toolMulti-Axis programmingExperience utilizing CAM software (particularly MasterCAM)Tool & Die shop background

Physical Requirements:

Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including, but not limited to, safety glasses, steel-toed or metatarsal-guarded shoes, and/or ear plugs, while working in an industrial and/or manufacturing environment. Ability to use hands to handle, feel, or manipulate objects with fingers.Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, and reach within hands and/or arm’s length.Ability to frequently stoop, kneel, and crouch. Ability to occasionally reach overhead or at or below shoulder level.Ability to ascend or descend ladders or steps in confined spaces, as required by work area.Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects between 25 and 50 pounds in weight in all directions.Ability to remain in stationary or standing position for prolonged periods and to alternate between positions as necessary.Ability to repeat gross or fine manipulation that may include the use of wrists, hands, and/or fingers.Ability to perform close visual inspections of products, which may include specific vision requirements.Ability to work in an open warehouse environment, subject to seasonal weather (hot/cold).
