The Role

Provides technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks. Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes. Produces engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics). Performs detailed mathematical calculations using established formulas; preliminary analyses of data where guidelines are provided in such areas as trajectory adequacy, model dimensional consistency; and quantitative judgments concerning technical data. Uses personal computer in performance of analyses and development of documentation/reports. May conduct tests and record data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis.

 

CVN Engineering Technician 3- The Engineering Technician 3 for Combat Systems is a demanding position, which will needs in-depth technical knowledge and a solid grasp of the requirements of satellite communication networks and weapons systems. Candidate should have an extensive UHF, NMT (SHF and EHF) electronics experience and/or extensive NATO Sea Sparrow Missile System (NSSMS), Rolling Airframe Missile System (RAM), Close In Weapons System (CIWS) and AN/SPQ-9 Radar System electronics experience. The candidate should be able to effectively communicate with external customers including SUPSHIP, SPAWAR, CAFSU, and Ship’s Force as well as coordinate with many different internal organizations to safely and successfully accomplish SATCOM and/or WEAPONS system testing on all CVN projects.  The CVN technician is responsible for developing test procedures, groom/troubleshoot and test UHF, SHF, EHF, NSSMS, RAM, CIWS & SPQ-9 systems, including the set-up and maintenance of linkable communication networks. The technician will be responsible for the successful completion of SATCOM and/or WEAPONS testing in support of Combat Systems Trial Rehearsal (CSTR) and Fast Cruise.  The responsibilities include scheduling with Ship’s Force and support satellite action requests (SAR) as necessary to demonstrate the complete communication loop.  Coordinate interface testing with all Link communication networks and performs a variety of duties in the electronic, mechanical, electromechanical, or optical areas.  Constructs, troubleshoots, calibrates programs, adjusts, tests, and maintains equipment, components, devices, or systems.  Works from engineering drawings and written or verbal instructions.  Operates related equipment; conducts tests and reports data in prescribed format. Performs calibration and alignment checks; makes adjustments, modifications, and replacements as directed; prepares prescribed compounds and solutions.  Position will need shipboard access and be able to climb vertical ladders.

Must Have

Associate's Degree and 3 years of relevant experience

One of the following may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree to meet minimum qualifications:

NNS Apprentice School graduate Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate High School/GED and 2 years of related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience High School/GED and 4 years of non-related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience Nice to Have

- Ability to handle heights, be able to ascend/descend vertical ladders that span multiple decks, both topside and within the ship.
- Ability to obtain a Secret Level Security Clearance.
- Ability to go to Sea during Test Trials.
- Ability to work multiple shifts
- Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical personnel is essential.
