Back Location : Cedar Falls, IA Description :Performs basic product design, testing and/or analysis work for a defined portion of a project. Operates in a team environment, providing input to design solutions and participating in design reviews. Develops recommendations within established guidelines; work and decisions are reviewed by supervisors before implementation.
Duties:
Applies existing applications to routine problems. Produces and/or evaluates possible design solutions to improve cost, quality and performance based on specialized knowledge of engineering applications. This may include possible involvement of other functional engineers, supply management and/or supplier personnel. Analyzes assignments and determines engineering specifications which must be fulfilled for routine problems or projects. Compiles and furnishes necessary information (engineering decisions and reports of pertinent design analyses data) to document the design solution required for building of prototypes and adoption of the design with possible involvement of other functional engineers, supply management and/or supplier personnel. Learns and applies company engineering policies and practices; learns company products. Executes test or analysis plan for product verification and validation.

Requirements:
Support engine and component testing in a laboratory environment. Maintain and update the database of engine test requests. Familiarity with solid modeling is a strong plus to support test cell fixture design, fabrication, and documentation. Looking for a candidate with a 4 year Engineering or Industrial Technology degree. Laboratory and testing experience is a plus.
Most important, specific duties of this position:
The position would support and coordinate testing of new designs and technologies, process, and report data from these tests. This may include writing test plans and working with other engineering disciplines to provide parts and coordinate data collection. In addition, this position may be responsible for running onsite component-level bench tests.
Typical issues or problems this position must frequently address:
Most typical issues encountered by this position will be related to the support of testing efforts in the lab. These may include debugging, documenting, and communicating electronic issues, component failures, or scheduling issues.
For the data processing and reporting, there may be software hurdles to overcome not only during the initial learning curve, but also in dealing with data issues coming from the testing activities.
With sufficient Pro/E skills, this position may be responsible for designing new test fixtures to enable component-level testing of new designs.
Most complex issues or problems this position must frequently address:
From a technical perspective, the most complex problems would be related to troubleshooting test issues in the lab and/or developing new fixture designs. However, from an interpersonal perspective, this person may need to communicate issues to co-workers and suppliers, both foreign and domestic.
Impact to Organization
Duties/responsibilities added to or removed from this position:
This position is relatively new in the organization and was created to respond to the larger role PV&V is playing in new technology development projects. PV&V is striving to conduct testing earlier in the program, and, therefore, added resources are needed to support these activities. Due to the nature of new technology development projects, responsibilities in this position are expected to be relatively fluid and will change depending upon the phase of development and learning.

Required Skills, Knowledge, & Relevant Work Experience:
– Strong Computer Proficiency particularly in data analysis software (i.e. Excel, Matlab, DIAdem)
– Strong Communication skills and teamwork
– Familiarity with 3D modeling
– Familiarity with computer programming
– Enthusiasm and desire to learn
Desired Skills, Knowledge & Relevant Work Experience:
– Experience in Visual Basic programming
– Experience with Diesel Engine Systems
