Engineering Technician
Overview We are seeking a full-time Acoustic Engineering Technician in our Miramar, FL location. In this role, you will be responsible for measuring, testing, troubleshooting, repairing products, production equipment, and systems. Essential Functions Understand system interconnects/wiring practices and is able to diagnose and correct connection and wiring problems and/or create system wiring diagrams with assistance Able to operate basic lab test equipment to test and troubleshoot test failures, including using equipment such as multimeters, tone generators, amplifiers, etc. Write technical reports, including documentation of the test setup, block diagrams, and test setup schematics to fully document test results and analysis Sets up and executes basic test plans and provides detailed test reports Serves as a mentor to Engineering Lab Assistants Thoroughly document work in an organized manner Work collaboratively/professionally in a team environment with other Garmin associates to achieve goals including sharing ideas and information freely and positively Accepts and acts on constructive criticism Identify/resolve defects of basic scope using proper engineering tools and techniques Understand Garmin’s Mission Statement, Vision, Values and Quality Policy and enthusiastically exhibit a desire to see Garmin succeed Miramar (JL) Assist in proto speaker assembly, packaging, recycling, and destruction as needed Maintain lab equipment/tools, including lab test fixtures and apparatus and may design test fixture improvements using standard or automated tools (LabView, Visual Basic, SoundCheck, DB Lab, Audio Precision, Excel) Basic Qualifications Associates Degree in Electronics Engineering Technology, Electronics Engineering, or another substantially similar field OR electronics related Military training OR completion of a minimum of 80 hours towards a BS degree in Electronics Technology or substantially related field OR current ISCET certification or related certification 2 year Electronics/ Electrical Technology degree OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience Excellent academic qualifications (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule) with ability to effectively apply learned knowledge Demonstrates ability to apply test processes and methods to verify design and products performance Demonstrated ability to read schematics, understand and debug basic circuits from system level to component level with engineering guidance Must demonstrate the ability to operate basic and advanced lab equipment including PCB milling machines, oscilloscopes, EMC analyzers, etc. Understands basic test plans and procedures including FCC, CE, and live GPS testing Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills Must exhibit professionalism, be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others Driven problem solver with proven success in solving difficult problems Excellent time management and follow-up skills Must possess the ability to bend, twist and lift up to 75 pounds while using safe lifting techniques, and pushing/pulling test equipment racks of up to 200 pounds, standing for an entire shift, climbing and utilizing ladders to connect cables and walking long distances throughout the facility.
