Job Description
As an Engineering Technician, you will be responsible for performing material testing for aggregate, soil, asphalt, non-destructive testing (NDT), concrete, concrete density, and steel. Your role will involve visiting multiple job sites throughout central Iowa, interacting with contractors and project owners, collecting samples of soil or concrete, and conducting foundation testing. You will ensure compliance with shop drawings by inspecting reinforcing steel and logging concrete testing data.
ResponsibilitiesConduct material testing for aggregate, soil, asphalt, NDT, concrete, concrete density, and steel.Visit multiple job sites daily throughout central Iowa.Interact with contractors and project owners.Collect samples of soil or concrete and perform foundation testing.Inspect reinforcing steel for compliance with shop drawings.Log and track testing data from concrete and soil testing machines.Essential Skills2+ years of construction testing experience in earth, dirt work, concrete, steel, or related materials.Bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Sciences, or a similar field is preferred.Active Driver's License.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience with soil, concrete, aggregate, and asphalt testing.Knowledge of environmental science, geoscience, and nondestructive testing.Ability to use nuclear gauge and nuclear density gauge.ACI certification is a plus.Work Environment
The work schedule typically involves working 40-60 hours per week, with start times varying between 5 am and 7 am. Expect to work until the job is complete, with current workloads requiring a minimum of 55 hours per week. Overnight stays are rare, approximately 10 nights per season. The team comprises 10 field technicians and 6 office staff (2 administrative, 3 project managers, and 1 engineer). The company is family-owned, fostering a close-knit, supportive environment where managers assist with projects and employees often spend time together outside of work. Most clients are based in the Midwest, including IL, MN, and WI. The company invests heavily in employee education, offering certification support and flexible scheduling. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $28.00/hr.
