Engineering Technician (Electrical)
Summary This position is located with Bonneville Power Administration, in Transmission Services, Transmission Planning and Asset Management, Transmission Communications and Grid Modeling, Communications and Control Planning. A successful candidate as an Engineering Technician (Electrical) performs work associated with engineering design, implementation, and engineering standards to support electrical transmission, distribution, control, measurement, and utilization projects, systems, and processes. Responsibilities As an Engineering Technician (Electrical) you will: Reviews electronic schematics and supporting documents to develop, compute, and verify specifications for drafting data. Develops methods and procedures to utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software. Utilizes CAD programs (MicroStation) to create/draft and/or revise project requirements diagrams, 60 Hz diagrams, customer long range plans and Communication diagrams in accordance with BPA standards and applicable regulations. Provides guidance and leadership in the development and application of planning templates, standards and guidelines for technical long-range plans, 60 Hz diagrams, Communications diagrams and project requirements diagrams. Plans and delivers standards and project requirement diagram development training to Planning Engineers. Performs activities such as plotting, printing, and storage within CAD systems; file and maintain records in accordance with the Information Governance & Lifecycle Management (IGLM) policies and procedures. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: GS-11: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-10 in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as: Experience in developing drawings using computer design software such as computer-aided design (CAD) to support engineering projects. GS-12: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-11 in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as: Experience in developing drawings using computer design software to include computer-aided design (CAD) to 1) support engineering projects, 2) provide technical guidance to other technicians, and 3) develop and maintain internal technical documentation. "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
