This unit provides statistical information on maintenance operations, analyzes performance, and reports findings to the General Assembly, Chief Engineer – Operations and the Division Engineers. The unit operates and maintains the Department’s Asset Management Systems and uses these systems to develop strategies and plan for statewide maintenance performance guidelines. This unit also provides asset inventory collection, GIS/mapping services, and administrative guidance to the field maintenance forces of the 14 highway Divisions. We are looking for an Engineering Technician to work in the Raleigh Office. The primary purpose of the position is to provide cartographic and GIS assistance to staff and the Engineering Specialist positions in the development, implementation, and maintenance of the mapping products produced in the Operations Program Management (OPM) Unit / Mapping Section such as County Maintenance Maps, Posted Bridge Maps, the State Travel Map, Federal Aid System Maps and NC Truck Route Maps. The position requires the application of GIS cartographic principles and practices to meet the broad range of both routine and non-routine products of the Mapping Section. The position will collaborate on project teams within the Mapping Section for the development of innovative mapping solutions. Most of the work will involve using Esri products such as ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online. The position requires the ability to balance multiple priorities and projects to meet deadlines. This position interacts with a broad range of clients, requiring strong communication skills, and the ability to use a wide variety of mapping resources to provide assistance to clients and staff.
