Job Title: Engineering Technician (Instrumentation)

Job Description

This position will work as a member of the Instrumentation and Imaging Group to support product validation of various products, including all legacy vehicles, new vehicles in development, charging products, energy storage solutions, and humanoid robots. This role is responsible for performing and overseeing all instrumentation and data acquisition of full system-level or sub-system tests performed in-house and on proving ground sites. Additionally, this technician will support vehicle preparation and tear-down and test execution as dictated by test priorities. The successful candidate for this position will have a experience in automotive testing.

ResponsibilitiesIdentify, source, and procure required data acquisition and sensorsMaintain sensor library, sensor repair, and coordinate calibration activities of all instrumentationOversee and/or perform installation of sensors and data acquisition equipmentInstall data acquisition equipment, including sensors such as accelerometers, gyros, thermocouples, strain gauges, load cells, pressure transducers, torque sensors, displacement sensors, BUS monitors, GPS, etc.Create daily work plans to achieve test plan goals on scheduleDesign and create custom brackets and fixturesSupport testing activities and/or vehicle preparation and tear-down as required by workflow prioritySelect appropriate sensing devices for use with data collection systemsPerform onsite support and testing while monitoring and validating dataConduct data analysis and correlationEssential SkillsExperience with data acquisition systems and instrumenting vehicles with accelerometers, pressure sensors, thermocouples, strain gauges, etc.Experience with DTS, SOMAT, NI, and DEWESOFT data acquisition tools preferredFormal electronics training (AC/DC circuits, formulas, and components) or equivalent work experienceStrain gauge selection, installation, and wiring for torque, load, bending, etc.Ability to operate and maintain a wide variety of hand and power tools, shop tools, and shop equipment for the servicing of automobilesAbility to operate and use diagnostic scan tools, scopes, meters, and other test equipmentExperience with MS Office tools (Outlook/Excel/Word/PowerPoint/Project), and Adobe productsAbility to follow oral and written instructionsEstablish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including the publicEffectively handle multiple priorities, organize workload, and meet deadlinesWork in a team-based environment to achieve common goalsMaintain top-level professional integrity and appearance as a test technicianA minimum of 3 years of instrumentation and data acquisition experience or applicable degree/certificationMust have a valid driver’s licenseAdditional Skills & QualificationsFlexibility to travel domestically and internationally (Up to 10%)Work Environment

Primarily in a lab, traveling less than 25% (locally).

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $38.00
