Summary You will serve as an ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (MECHANICAL) in the Surface Ship Non-Propulsion Piping Branch (267), Fluid/Mechanical Engineering Division, Engineering and Planning Department of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD. Responsibilities You will serve as the technical working leader in the preparation of technical documents for complex repairs and alterations of Surface Ship systems. You will evaluate man-days required for ship checking, developing each engineering document, ordering special material, and preparing test procedures. You will provide technical guidance for and prepare procedures for conducting tests on various mechanical equipment and systems. You will coordinate efforts on design engineering projects and attend and participate in conferences and discussions with other shipyards. You will act as a troubleshooter in the identification and resolution of problems encountered during installation, grooming, or testing phases of waterfront production efforts. You will perform engineering analysis and calculations associated with project designs. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience applying mechanical engineering concepts and principles. Experience with engineering aspects unique to nuclear powered vessels, including a detailed knowledge of auxiliary piping systems and equipment cognizant to the Surface Ship Non-Propulsion Piping branch Experience evaluating and applying latest developments and techniques in solving problems. Experience understanding, communicating, and cooperating in areas of work interfacing with personnel of other engineering disciplines, including electrical and structural. Experience preparing and performing review of technical working documents such as Job Summaries and Task Group Instructions.
