Posting Number: 20244233S Position Title: Enterprise Systems Cloud Engineer Position Type: Staff Location: Villanova, PA Recruitment Type: Internal/External Applicants Work Schedule: full-time/12-months Avg Hours Week Department: 712-UNIT - Operations Position Summary: The Enterprise Systems Cloud Engineer is responsible for the planning, implementation, and ongoing management of Villanova’s Microsoft Azure and Office 365 platforms. This role focuses on ensuring the availability, performance, and security of cloud services while aligning cloud technologies with the institution’s technical and business objectives. The position involves collaboration with leadership, technical teams, and functional areas to design cloud solutions, optimize resources, and address service gaps through continuous improvement and innovation.

Duties and Responsibilities: Microsoft Azure Collaborate with leadership and technical leads across University Information Technologies (UNIT) to define and lead efforts to assess and review opportunities to utilize Azure services such as compute and storage subscriptions to replace on-prem setups. Design and implement Azure-based solutions to meet the technical and business requirements for Villanova. Manage and optimize cloud infrastructure, ensuring high availability and performance. Regularly review and adjust the size of our Azure resources to match actual usage to avoid over-provisioning and reduce costs. Develop and maintain automation scripts and tools to streamline deployment, management, and monitoring of cloud resources. Implement and manage Azure Operational best practices. Monitor and troubleshoot cloud infrastructure and application performance, identifying and resolving issues in a timely manner. Stay up to date with the latest Azure services, technologies, and best practices, and share knowledge with the team. Provide support and guidance to other team members on cloud-related issues. Lead the operation, configuration, and monitoring of cloud infrastructure and resources. Configure and manage monitoring, alerting, and reporting of key performance indicators. Perform scheduled maintenance and updates.


Microsoft 365 Administration Administer and configure Office 365 services, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, Teams, and other associated applications. Develop standards and drive recommendations surrounding critical functions and services such as system configuration and automated tasks. Collaborate with functional and technical teams to help lead projects and resolve issues/incidents that rely heavily on the Microsoft 365 suite of services. Prioritize security issues by discussing best practices regarding system security. Partner closely with UNIT’s Information Security Office to proactively prevent and/or respond to threats and incidents. Proactively monitors platform availability and responds urgently to Information Security requests that potentially arise. Support of Villanova’s Email platform, including all aspects of Exchange Lead efforts to document and operationalize M365 implementation and maintenance tasks.
Documentation and Administrative Responsibilities Write and maintain documentation to assist in the setup, administration, and troubleshooting of managed services by team of coworkers with varying skill levels. Create, test, and facilitate change requests for approval on production systems. Resolve service requests and manage assigned ticket queue. Participate in meetings relevant to this position and team across campus
Research, Development, and Service Delivery Assessment Explore options for addressing current issues or service gaps by reaching out to other universities; discussing methods, technologies, and processes they have used to knowledge-share and collaborate on solutions. Maintain a knowledge base for information. Engage in the Continual Service Improvement process with colleagues to assess services and processes, identifying opportunities for enhancements or replacements. Assess technologies that could be utilized in our environment to augment current services to better achieve the goals as outlined in the Strategic Plan for campus IT. Develop and maintain frameworks to guide innovation and improvement cycles, with a focus on proactive solutions and process improvements that will enhance the customer experience.
Perform other duties and assist with projects as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Formal Education Bachelor’s degree preferred


Work Experience 5 years’ work experience in the IT field (regardless of sector) 3 years work experience supporting and managing M365 and or Azure Infrastructure.

Specific Job Knowledge (e.g., knowledge of principles and procedures related to field and area) 3 years’ experience supporting Exchange email and collaboration tools Experience with PowerShell scripting. Solid understanding of cloud computing technologies, including Azure, AWS and Google cloud. Preferred Qualifications: Formal Education Microsoft Office 365 and/or Microsoft Office 365 certifications desirable.


Work Experience Experience in managing a M365/Azure environment with 3000+ users. Experience working within large, complex higher education environments, supporting both academic and administrative functions.
Work Skills (e.g., written and verbal communication skills) Ability to translate needs/issues with both functional and technical audiences Excellent time management and planning skills Strong analytical skills in identifying trends and making business/technical decisions
Specific Job Knowledge (e.g., knowledge of principles and procedures related to field and area)Experience managing and supporting Windows Server OS.
Strong knowledge of Office Applications: Outlook, OneNote, Excel, Word and PowerPoint. SharePoint Online and the use of 3rd party tools like ShareGate. O365 Exchange, transport rules, DMARC authentication & enforcement.
