The Chadds Ford, PA office of Schnabel Engineering is seeking a Staff Scientist/Engineer to join our growing our Infrastructure Monitoring Services (IMS) team supporting geotechnical, mining, tunnel and dam engineering projects. Our IMS combines instrumentation, engineering and risk management to evaluate performance metrics of engineered systems creating long term value for our clients. Qualified candidates will be driven, well-rounded, organized problem solvers with excellent communication skills and an interest in hands-on instrument installations as well as remote monitoring and troubleshooting. The successful candidate for this position will gain practical knowledge and experience under the supervision and mentoring of senior engineering personnel in the Chadds Ford, PA office location. We are looking for a motivated candidate with attention to detail, a passion to continue to develop as a professional, and a desire to be part of a strong team. **Job Responsibilities:** + Learn and master application and implementation of manual and automated infrastructure monitoring systems including Schnabel’s IMS portal (powered by sensemetrics) for geotechnical, mining, tunnel and dam applications. + Install and integrate IoT connectivity devices as well as other vendor hardware and sensors at project sites worldwide. + Install and commission automation and sensor products and related field work, providing: + Assistance in developing installation plans/submittals and installation closeout reports + Field installation including procuring and installing necessary mounting equipment and conduit as needed for instruments and telemetry systems + Adequately document details of on-site work to equip the support team in future troubleshooting requests + Prepare installation reports documenting installation of instruments, documentation of instrument installs, baseline readings + Effective time management, written communication skills, analytical skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to efficiently balance multiple concurrent tasks, responsibilities, and commitments. + Observe geotechnical-related construction and prepare daily observation reports + Create drawing sets and construction documents using AutoCAD and MicroStation **Required Skills/Experience:** + 0-2 years of professional experience + Excellent oral and written communication skills + Positive attitude + Strong work ethic and a desire for continual self-improvement + Willingness and ability to perform field work and travel, including assignments that may last several months away from the office + Ability to lift 60 pounds and be physically able to negotiate construction sites, enter trenches, climb ladders and work outside **Desired Skills/Experience:** + Bachelor's Degree a science and technology field + Experience with sensemetrics (Bentley IoT) monitoring portal + Demonstrated experience with geotechnical instrumentation for civil infrastructure projects, + Literacy in computer programming languages and electronic repair + Prior internship or professional work in a related field (i.e. geotechnical engineering, construction, civil engineering, etc.) **Other Requirements:** + Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record and credit check + Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening The compensation range for this position is between $57,200 to $86,000 per year. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors.
