This position provides comprehensive Environmental, Health & Safety direction and guidance to support Plant Management on all aspects in this area.
Primary Duties
• Visit the work area frequently to ensure compliance, and discusses safety issues with team. Explains to team that safety excellence is expected and is a requirement of employment. Encourages the team to report incidents, near-misses and unsafe conditions. SKNA employees regardless of level, position or tenure are responsible for upholding the safety standards regulations and policies.
• Work closely with plant management and local safety personnel to address Environmental, Health & Safety issues and drive successful implementation of Corporate Health & Safety programs
• Establish Environmental, Health & Safety objectives and goals for the plant and departments ensuring they are consistent with Corporate Strategies and objectives
• Conduct on-site Health & Safety audits/ inspections to assure compliance with Corporate Health & Safety policies, programs, procedures and guidelines
• Ensure plant is complaint with State and Federal Safety Regulations (OSHA/ Cal OSHA, DOT etc.) and formulates recommendations for implementing best practices
• Evaluate the organization's procedures, facilities and equipment - identify, analyze and control of occupational hazards via risk assessments
• Proactively manage and deliver employee Health & Safety training for existing and new employees (safety orientation program)
• Educate Management on Health & Safety best practices
• Manage, research and recommend safety programs, policies and systems
• Establish a series of effective Health & Safety KPI's for the plant and provide monthly reports to Management
• Manage Workers Compensation claims, working on recommendations for claim settlements, medical treatments and strategies (reducing company exposure/costs)
• Carry out near miss and accident investigation in timely fashion; Identify root cause of accidents and implement corrective actions/measures.
• Report accidents in timely basis within the Company, Workers Compensation Insurance carrier and regulatory agencies
• Communicates and celebrates success to maintain and foster Company's commitment towards Health & Safety
• Maintain membership and continuous development in applicable Health & Safety associations, being informed on new trends, legal requirements and developments
• Additional duties assigned by management
Job Qualifications
• 5+ years progressive Safety experience in a manufacturing environment
• Bachelor's degree in Health & Safety or related area, preferred
• Certified Safety Professional preferred
• Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
• Bilingual in Spanish, preferred
• Computer proficiency - Excel, Power Point and Word
• Ability to read, write, speak fluently in English
• Must be able to travel on short notice 75%
