Environmental, Health, and Safety Specialist
MAU is hiring an Environmental, Health, and Safety Specialist for Gildan in Charleston, SC. As an Environmental, Health, and Safety Specialist, you will implement workplace environmental, safety, and health programs at assigned facilities to help foster a compliant operation where Zero Harm culture is continuously embraced. This is a direct-hire opportunity.

Shift Information Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM On-call as required during any time/day of the week Required Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental, Chemistry, or Engineering; other Physical Sciences will be considered in conjunction with EH&S coursework or certifications 3 – 5+ years of relevant experience General Requirements Detailed knowledge of operations and procedures to resolve straightforward issues and a good understanding of how the other sectors of business interplay and affect the department or provide professional services using standard procedure and specific knowledge Problem-Solving and Complexity: Identify and resolve immediate problems affecting team and/or research and analyze data from familiar areas to determine appropriate actions; update or modify working methods in own role based on defined procedures; exercise judgment in the interpretation of policies and procedures Leadership, Planning, and Organizing: Supervise and coordinate efficient use of resources; lead operational team members; ensure achievement of results on a short-term basis and/or organize most aspects of own work according to pre-established deadlines and priorities; work collaboratively with team members to delivery outputs Communication: Provide guidance, advice, and answers to members of the team; regularly train or act as a resource or provide information of a specialized nature when requested; interpretation through circumscribed research Impact of Decisions: Day-to-day decisions affect the operational and/or sales effectiveness of the team; the first point of contact for technical input or escalation to resolve immediate issues or operate with standardized practices and processes; have a direct impact on the delivery of services to others; supervise progress and results; decisions and actions taken mostly impact a unique location or unit Preferred Requirements Current CPR/First Aid/Blood Borne Pathogen Trainer Certification OSHA 30-hour NFPA 70E, Confined Space, and Control of Hazardous Energy training Fall Protection Competent Person Essential Functions Support implementation and improvement of EH&S programs at one or more distribution facilities in the US Collaborate with facility operational teams and EH& staff to implement action plans, processes, and procedures to control EH&S risks and achieve compliance with the Gildan safety and environmental policies, corporate EH&S guidelines, and improvement initiatives Conduct assessments that identify hazards and reduce risk, including hazard identification, job safety analysis, risk assessments, pre-startup safety review, PPE, machine guarding, hazardous energy, etc. Conduct training in all aspects of EH&S to ensure compliance with legal and Gildan requirements and in a manner that positively engages employee behaviors Collaboratively conduct incident reviews for causes and develop corrective/preventative actions Coach all levels of personnel on critical skills, behaviors, and techniques that build and sustain a safety culture consistent with Gildan’s values Conduct or support industrial hygiene evaluations sufficient to identify hazards, risks, and trends Participate in or conduct internal audits, compliance assessments, and inspections Support safety programs for contractors and construction projects Maintain EH&S documentation, records, and EH&S management information tools Develop and implement plans to complete personal objectives that align with organizational objectives Participate in audits/inspections by external parties such as OSHA, EPA, Property Insurance Carrier, Corporate, etc. Perform other tasks as assigned Travel Most travel required can be accomplished in day trips Overnight travel is necessary, occurs 10% – 20%
