Direct reports: Environmental Officer – Mine Site Rehabilitation
Purpose
The Mine Rehabilitation and Biodiversity Technician plays a critical role in restoring mined areas to their natural or economically productive states. This position involves implementing rehabilitation plans, monitoring environmental impacts, and collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
Key Responsibilities
This position will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.
Conduct site evaluations to determine the extent of environmental degradation and requirements for rehabilitation. Develop and implement effective mine rehabilitation strategies. Oversee the physical implementation of rehabilitation measures, such as landscaping, erosion control, and revegetation. Efficiently manage the operations of the tree nursery through handling and planting of native vegetation, soil amendment applications, and water management plans. Monitor the success of rehabilitation projects through regular inspections and data collection. Prepare detailed reports on rehabilitation activities, outcomes, and environmental impacts. Provide training and guidance to field workers engaged in rehabilitation projects. Ensure sustained Beekeeping management practices at the mine site to reduce risks to the workforce. Stay updated on best practices in mine rehabilitation and environmental management. Any other duties as directed by Superiors empowered to exercise authority over him/her.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualification: A relevant Diploma in Forestry, Agroforestry, Environmental Science, Mining Engineering, or a related field.Experience
3 years of practical experience preferably in the mining context.KEY SKILLS
Knowledge of environmental regulations and rehabilitation techniques.Ability to work outdoors in potentially challenging conditions.Project management and organizational skills.Critical thinking and attention to detail.OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
