JOB SUMMARY

The broad objective of the Environmental Control Supervisor is to effectively manage and implement policies and programs as they relate to environmental compliance for McCain Foods USA – Burley, ID facility. The incumbent will initiate, develop, plan, and implement operational, maintenance, and project activities to support the facility environmental compliance functions. The Environmental Control Supervisor will also monitor and assess manufacturing operations from an environmental compliance perspective, and coordinate environmental compliance work activities with McCain standards, initiatives, and requirements. The incumbent will also communicate environmental issues to the Director of Environmental Engineering, Environmental Engineer, and Senior Management when requested.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Minimum: Bachelor of Science Degree from four-year College or university, and/or five years’ experience in the operation and maintenance of water or wastewater facilities, industrial waste, water supply concepts or related.Preferred: Minimum plus three (3) to five (5) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of water or wastewater facilities, industrial waste, water supply concepts, or related.Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulatory laws are essential.Experience with industrial waste and wastewater treatment.Previous supervisory experience.Strong leadership, reasoning and judgement are required to facilitate proper planning and implementation.Strong understanding of the technical aspects of the particular facility and demonstrated interpersonal relations and personnel management skills. Certificates, Licenses, RegistrationsMust possess or be able to possess within one year, a Class IV Watewater Operator’s License from the State of Idaho.

 

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual will have knowledge or Windows applications and above average skills using the MS Office suite, particularly with Outlook, Word and Excel.

 

SCOPE of AUTHORITY:Responsible to monitor work areas, area systems, and watch for suspicious behavior and report any concerns regarding unidentified visitors and/or unauthorized personnel.Will have the authority to question and take appropriate measures regarding the safety of yourself, other employees, visitors, contractors, vendors, all products, and equipment.Responsible for maintaining a high standard of cleanliness throughout the food processing facility, especially where any raw or finished product is produced.Authority to report and/or eliminate hazards to the safety of the food that is produced in the facility.Order supplies, materials and equipment.Make operating decisions, which are within budgetary constraints.Conduct performance appraisals for assigned employees.Approve overtime.Direct employees.Make decisions regarding environmental process operations, starch recovery performance, and by-product utilization.Developmental decisions and implementation of environmental programs and capital projects.All employees have the right to question or refuse a work-related directive that is unsafe.All employees are expected to take appropriate measures regarding employee, product or equipment safety.

 

 

 

ADDITIONAL TRAINING:

Attend training sessions as required to maintain required licenses, improve and develop skills that will elevate employee relations, productivity and efficiency. Semi-annual opacity certification. Attends and participates in all annual, departmental, and job specific required training and informational meetings.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, scientific and technical journals, technical procedures, financial reports, legal documents, and governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure or training manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from top management, employees, customers, and the general public.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or member of the business community.  Ability to train and motivate employees.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.  Good analytical and problem-solving skills.

The employee must occasionally, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; extreme heat and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
