Environmental Coordinator
Position Description:
The Environmental Coordinator plays a key role in driving sustainability by implementing environmental compliance programs and management systems that meet both legal and voluntary requirements. This exciting role involves identifying and managing environmental risks, ensuring compliance with evolving regulations, and fostering continuous improvement. With a focus on air, water, waste, energy, biodiversity, and reclamation, the Environmental Coordinator develops and monitors efficient, cost-effective solutions that support both regulatory requirements and corporate sustainability goals.
This position will be a residential role, offering a 4-on, 3-off schedule, working 10-hour shifts. The position involves a mix of office and fieldwork, requiring the ability to work in varying seasonal outdoor conditions.
Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and maintain environmental monitoring programs for air quality, water quality, noise, waste, energy, and biodiversity. Ensure compliance with applicable environmental legislation, regulations, operational permits, Cyanide Code Principles, Towards Sustainable Mining Protocols, and ISO-14001 standards. Respond promptly to environmental incidents, including spills, to mitigate impacts and ensure compliance with emergency response protocols. Coordinate data collection, analysis, and reporting for environmental programs. Oversee mine rehabilitation activities and closure/reclamation planning. Provide guidance to operations and contractors on environmental policies and procedures. Liaise with external consultants for baseline data collection and assessments. Prepare and submit regulatory reports, permits, and compliance documentation accurately and on time. Act as a liaison with municipal, provincial, and federal regulatory agencies, as well as communities of interest. Conduct field inspections and sampling as required. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Degree or diploma in an environmental discipline (e.g., Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Environmental Engineering, or a related field) required. Strong understanding of environmental legislation, regulatory frameworks, and ISO-14001 Environmental Management Systems preferred. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously required. Experience in mine rehabilitation, closure planning, and environmental monitoring techniques preferred. Proficiency in data processing, analysis, and management software required. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with diverse stakeholders and regulatory authorities required. Ability to work independently in the field, often in remote or challenging conditions required. Strong organizational and time-management skills to prioritize tasks effectively required. Experience preparing technical reports and compliance documentation preferred. Knowledge of hazardous material and waste management practices preferred. Valid G Driver's License and insurable required.
