About the Role

The Environmental Engineer for Magna Exteriors will play a critical role in ensuring environmental compliance across multiple North American divisions (USA, Mexico, Canada). The position will focus on managing environmental data collection, particularly PFOS (perfluorooctane sulfonate), and assisting with ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. This role will also help divisions adhere to Magna’s internal environmental standards and support key environmental processes such as air permitting, hazardous waste reporting, RCRA, TRI, waste stream identification, stormwater management, and EMS (ISO 14001).

Additionally, this position will contribute to achieving world-class environmental status by improving operational efficiency, eliminating environmental impacts, and implementing corporate sustainability initiatives. The role will help drive compliance with Magna’s environmental management systems and corporate policies.

Your Responsibilities PFOS Data Collection & Management: Collect, consolidate, and manage PFOS data from divisions across North America. Ensure accurate and timely reporting to internal stakeholders and regulatory agencies Environmental Compliance: Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and standards in air permitting, hazardous waste reporting, stormwater management, RCRA, TRI, and waste stream management, as well as internal Magna and EMS (ISO 14001) standards. Reporting, Auditing, Compliance: Manage routine environmental reports, compliance tasks, inventories, and surveys, including data acquisition, documentation, record-keeping, monitoring, review, and approval. Conduct regular audits of EHS processes, advise plant leadership of findings, and provide necessary follow-up to ensure continued compliance with environmental standards. Training & Development: Implement environmental training programs and training assessments to ensure all required training is conducted, promoting employee understanding of environmental compliance. Environmental Incident Management: Analyze environmental incidents, assist in  determine root causes, implement corrective actions, and communicate findings to plant leadership and corporate staff. Equipment Design & Compliance: Support new equipment programs from the concept stage to ensure environmental design specifications and regulatory requirements are included. Regulatory Communication: Coordinate communication of environmental regulatory inspection activity with group and division leadership. Environmental Management System (EMS): Support the implementation and maintenance of the divisional environmental management system (EMS 14001) to meet customer  environmental goals and regulatory requirements. Who we are looking for Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field. 3-7 years of experience in the environmental field within automotive manufacturing. Minimum of five years of relevant environmental compliance experience such as auditing, consulting, or manufacturing. Experience managing environmental compliance, including air permitting, hazardous waste, stormwater, and PFOS reporting. Thorough understanding of North American ( US, Mexico and Canada) federal, state, provincial, and local environmental regulations. Knowledge of environmental auditing, incident management, and root cause analysis. Strong leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work with cross-functional teams in different countries (USA, Mexico, Canada). Your preferred qualifications Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, CHMM, or related field (preferred). Environmental-related professional certifications (e.g. PE, CHMM). Automotive or manufacturing environmental compliance experience. Experience with environmental management software or databases is an asset. What we offer
