**Job Title:** Environmental Engineer III
**Location:** Tempe, AZ
**POSITION OVERVIEW** **:** This office and field position reviews, approves and implements scientific and engineering services to fully address the scope of work on environmental remediation and hazardous waste management projects in accordance with Company standards, regulatory criteria, and contractual obligations. In addition, this position requires the performance of a broad range of engineering functions related to designing, constructing, and operating new and existing remedial systems. This position prepares the initial design concept and components of the final design of remedial systems to address potential risks to human health and the environment.
**TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:** Environmental Engineer III typical responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to the following:
+ Independently identifies, analyzes, and recommends engineering alternatives/designs and is able to identify and resolve complex engineering problems and develop conclusions and innovative recommendations.
+ Review/approve engineering alternatives/designs for small to medium scale environmental projects.
+ Prepares conceptual and final designs for complex or multi-phase/multi-media groundwater, surface water, vadose zone, and soil vapor/vapor mitigation remedial systems – including excavations, the placement of groundwater wells/injection locations and vertical intervals, well spacing, injectate dissemination methodology, injectate dosing, pumping rate, soil vapor extraction well spacing, distribution lines, blower sizing, granular activated carbon vapor effluent treatment, utility hook up, and air permitting, etc.
+ Consult and collaborate work with Project Manager, Superintendent, as well as Health and Safety, Quality Control, Project Controls, Estimating, and Contracts representatives to properly plan, coordinate and ensure progress of deliverables per the approved budget and schedule.
+ Able to plan and manage complex engineering projects or programs including design, contract administration, construction and operation.
+ Plan, prepare, review, and issue project and field submittals within approved budget including but not limited to pre-construction plans, design documents, testing plans, analytical reports, shop drawings, field submittals, operation/ maintenance reports, air emission reports, closure reports and as-built records.
+ Apply industry standards of practice for selected technology, adhering to regulatory codes and standards, national/ local standards, and company SOPs.
+ Identify, address and communicate technical, operational and business risks relevant to the selected project approach and technology to the Project Manager
+ Participate in team project meetings including preparing and presenting technical information to regulators and stakeholders.
+ Take a lead role in ensuring project safety – including conducting safety inspections, leading safety meetings and ensuring team participant awareness.
+ Author RFQs and assist in procurement and selection of technical and specialty subcontractors, consultants, service providers, and materials to accomplish scope of work.
+ Report to the field to perform and/or inspect fieldwork.
+ Oversee and review the work of personnel, subcontractors and consultants to ensure compliance with approved plans and acceptable specifications.
+ Ensure that appropriate and required testing is completed by qualified personnel using properly calibrated equipment.
+ Assure compliance with contract requirements and protection of contractual rights and thoroughly understand the measurement & payment of each item of work.
+ With Project Controls support, ensure prompt preparation of the work progress estimates and track pay quantity records and maintain proper documentation.
+ Complete related documentation (field reports, logs, meeting minutes, online submittal sites) in a timely and accurate manner – including maintaining the project submittal log, all field inventory logs, and all daily reports.
+ As requested, investigate and recommend solutions in response to field changes, RFIs, and resolve issues related to the quality or applicability of installed equipment, and issues regarding system operations.
+ With Project Controls support record and track all RFIs, potential change orders (PCO), and support development of modification proposals and claims/request for equitable adjustment (REA)
+ Ensure that efforts are focused on promotion of client and stakeholder success, considering both short- and long-term needs including maintaining personal accountability for adapting to organizational change for the benefit of our clients, stakeholders, and colleagues.
+ Apply entrepreneurial proficiency in approaching, achieving and delivering work product or services.
**EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION**
+ This position requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution. This includes a minimum of: 32 college semester credit hours of higher mathematics and basic sciences; and 48 college semester credit hours of engineering science and/or engineering design courses
+ Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for this requirement.
+ A minimum of 6 to 10+ years (typically more than 10 years) of experience required
+ PE License is required
+ HAZWOPER 40 Hour Certification with current 8 Hour Refresher
+ USACE Contractor Quality Management for Contractors certification is desirable.
+ Four years or more of progressively responsible experience performing soil excavations, soil vapor extraction system operation, groundwater extraction and treatment system operation, in-situ or ex-situ environmental systems design, field engineering support on environmental remediation or hazardous waste management projects; 3 years of self-directed work and at least one year supervising and/or reviewing the work of other engineers.
**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES**
+ Proficient in all applicable principles, procedures, and practices of pertinent engineering field(s) and applies engineering principles appropriately on multiple projects at same time.
+ Proven communication skills; proficient in written and verbal formats and with diplomacy and tact; strong technical writing skills
+ Proven aptitude for exercising independent thinking and reasoning.
+ Strong organizational skills, and skilled at leading dispersed teams to accomplish tasks and activities adhering to established budget and schedule.
+ Adept in achieving project objectives by properly reviewing/ inspecting work for adherence to approved technical plans, drawings, and specifications.
+ Demonstrated knowledge applying engineering standards of practice and regulatory codes and standards to environmental and field techniques.
+ Comprehensive knowledge in reading and comprehending client requirements, technical plans, specifications, and related technical documentation.
+ Established track record in effectively engaging with subcontractors.
+ Established subject matter expertise in one or more areas of engineering
+ Proven ability to mentor and guide team members, provide peer reviews, and share lessons learned
+ Competent in using Microsoft Office products, email systems, and Windows.
**WORKING CONDITIONS:** This position requires the ability to utilize a keyboard and similar equipment typically found in an office environment. In addition, this position requires the following:
+ Intermittent exposure to repetitive motions of the wrists or hands
+ The ability to view a computer monitor and distinguish figures or symbols.
+ Climbing ladders, scaffolding, or similar equipment found on a construction job site.
+ Walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods.
+ Travel domestically to office locations and project sites.
+ Incumbents in this position must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
+ Work in outdoor conditions that include inclement weather, heat, and humidity.
+ Work in an environment with dust, loud noise and/or vibrations.
+ Exposure to indoor and outdoor work environments with hazards typically found on a construction or hazardous waste site (moving vehicles & equipment, and potentially hazardous materials and environments).
