Summary Spire is seeking an Environmental Engineer or Scientist I. The title of the successful candidate will be determined based on if the candidate is eligible for a PE certification. This position will be responsible for performing field inspections, permitting, waste disposal and remediation to support Spire's pipeline work and ongoing operation of natural gas facilities. Duties and Responsibilities Duties may include the following, as well as other responsibilities as assigned. • Inspect Company facilities and projects for compliance of environmental and related regulations; provide recommendations for needed corrective or preventive actions with input from senior level employees. • Perform reviews of projects flagged by Construction Engineering for environmental issues. May require input from senior department employees. • Secure environmental permits and complete required regulatory submittals, especially disturbance/stormwater, hydrotest and floodplain permits. Oversee consultants performing permitting functions. • Manage and arrange routine disposal of regulated wastes generated by the Company. • Perform or oversee Phase I site investigations; assist with other remediation and risk mitigation projects. • Track and prepare air permitting, records and submittals with assistance from more senior department employees. • Maintain limited knowledge of applicable environmental regulations. Read and interpret applicable environmental regulations and apply lessons to inspections and compliance issues. • Respond to environmental field incidents and employee questions or requests. • Assist with regulated greenhouse gas data collection and reporting. • Manage environmental projects with oversight, or portions of environmental projects. This includes bid proposal preparation, scheduling, limited oversight and budget tracking. • Manage environmental concerns of Company employees, develop and conduct environmental training as necessary.
