Environmental Engineering Department Lead

Tetra Tech’s Hampton Roads office located in Virginia Beach, VA is seeking an Environmental Engineering Department Lead with at least 15 years’ experience in environmental and remediation-related projects. This position is considered a Seller-Doer role that supports the execution of projects targeting Department of Defense clients. This position will include responsibilities to develop and mentor junior staff as you direct the work of department staff. This position requires US citizenship due to the clients we work with.

Your Role :

 •    Direct and coordinate work of single or multidiscipline teams throughout the project’s lifecycle. 
•    Manage technical staff and perform duties such as hiring, budgeting, employee performance, and compensation reviews, creating a group and department goals.
•    Manage project financials including all aspects of budgets, costs, and contingencies.
•    Provide project-level financial progress reports.
•    Prepare and monitor scopes, schedules, and budgets as necessary for all projects.
•    Identify and allocate appropriate resources for execution of individual projects.
•    Technical work, including but not limited to engineering design, drawing review and stamping, and QA/QC. Implements effective design methods, provides technical guidance and acts as a resource for engineers and designers.
•    Assist clients with strategic planning for prioritization of projects.
•    Assist in regulatory relations, negotiations, conducting and leading meetings, and routine reporting.
•    Develop and manage relationships to facilitate the successful delivery of the projects.
•    Provide proper implementation of risk management procedures.
•    Prepare and present routine program progress status reports and presentations to multiple stakeholders.
•    Conduct value engineering reviews, integrated planning, project cost reviews.
•    Monitor Health and Safety aspects of projects and recommend changes as necessary.
•    Monitor Quality Assurance procedures and recommend necessary changes.

Qualifications :

•    BS degree in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering or related degree is required.  
•    Minimum 15+ years of experience with increasing responsibility in the environmental consulting market.
•    Professional license (e.g., PE) is required.
•    Knowledge of local and federal environmental regulations and guidance is preferred.
•    CERCLA experience is plus. 
•    Experience with governmental projects is beneficial but not mandatory.
•    Experience working on and possibly leading the preparation of technical deliverables is required. 
•    Possess project management capabilities and experience effectively balancing direct and indirect utilization rates.  
•    40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER training and current 8-hour refresher training is preferred.
•    Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills.
•    Proficiency delivering technical and business presentations.
•    Successful past performance of external customer engagements and building and maintaining successful client relationships.
•    Strong client retention and new business development skills.
