Environmental Health and Safety Manager
Job Description SummaryAs the EHS Manager, you will create and manage all policies and procedures required for an effective Environmental Health and Safety program for 3 sites in North America (with position located in Durham, NC). Have extensive knowledge in Health and Safety Programs, including but not limited to, Fall Protection, Powered Industrial Vehicles, Risk Assessments and Emergency Response Procedures/Programs for a large-scale Manufacturing Plant. You will be the Subject Matter Expert on all issues involving Environmental Compliance, Health and Safety regulation, and Workplace Injuries. You will work on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors necessary to select appropriate methods and techniques for obtaining satisfactory solutions.

The EHS manager will be responsible for ensuring compliance of all aspects of health and safety in our manufacturing operations across both sites (Cork and Limerick) while promoting a culture of proactive engagement on environmental issues. This role involves working closely with management teams to develop strategies which reduce risk and ensure regulatory compliance.
The role will also involve working with the engineering team to implement best practice solutions to eliminate or minimise risk and developing effective relationships with external bodies such as HSA, EPA and local authorities.


The ideal candidate will have experience in working within a regulated environment and ideally will hold a relevant professional qualification.
This position reports directly to the Operations Director.


Responsibilities: 

Develop and maintain safe systems of work.  

Conduct risk assessments and reviews.  

Monitor adherence to permits to work.  

Carry out inspections and audits.  

Provide advice and training to staff.  

Handle environmental reporting and monitoring.  

Co-ordinate investigations into accidents and incidents.  

Support production lines during periods of high demand.  

Promote awareness among employees of their individual responsibility for safety and health at work.  

Ensure compliance with statutory requirements relating to occupational safety and health.  


Qualifications:
Minimum Requirement

Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health/Environmental Science or equivalent discipline; or alternatively, significant relevant experience.  

Relevant postgraduate qualification desirable but not essential.

Academic Qualifications: 

Degree in Occupational Safety & Health / Environmental Science or equivalent required.  

Post Graduate Diploma/Masters level qualification in related field would be advantageous.  

Professional Membership: 

Member of Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) or other recognised international body preferred.  

Experience: 

Experience in managing a large team (15+)  

Significant experience in implementing and managing EHS programmes in a manufacturing environment.  

Experience in working with senior stakeholders and influencing behaviour change.  

Competencies: 

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.  

Excellent communication skills.  

Good organisational and interpersonal skills.  

Strong analytical and problem solving abilities.  

Ability to build trust by operating with integrity and professionalism.  

A flexible attitude with respect to work assignments and new learning.
