Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist

We are looking for an EHS Specialist to join Endress+Hauser Optical Analysis, the global leader in Raman spectroscopy, tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy (TDLAS), and quenched fluorescence (QF) instrumentation for laboratory, process, and manufacturing environments. Our laser-based analyzer systems perform high-performance chemical composition and concentration measurement of all phases of matter in any installation environment.
What is the role about?
The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for the overall Health, Safety and Environmental Program, including championing the safety culture within Endress+Hauser Optical Analysis. This role is a key part of a broader regional/national team coordinating safety and sustainability initiatives in the Endress+Hauser group of companies.
Which essential functions will you perform?
• Manage Environmental, Health and Safety Program for Optical Analysis entity.
• Develop and implement appropriate Health, Safety, and Environmental procedures and policies. This includes direct hands-on work.
• Establish, maintain, and enhance relationships with local, state, and governmental officials and agencies, representing the company on matters concerning Environmental, Health and Safety performance of the company.
• Develop monitoring and measuring tools for EHS performance indicators across the business, communicating status and driving initiatives toward continual improvement of the EHS program.
• Serve as a technical resource for environmental, health and safety regulations and policies to ensure compliance. Know when to escalate to ensure proper information is being provided to management.
• Lead internal safety committees in Ann Arbor, MI and Rancho Cucamonga, CA.
• Prepare Environmental, Health and Safety reports for E+H Group Services, regulatory agencies and leadership of Optical Analysis.
• Ensure the environmental and safety portion of the Integrated Management System is implemented and maintained in accordance with the current requirements of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
• Provide direction and training to site based operational staff on safety matters (e.g. Compliance, ergonomics, handling of materials, etc.) to ensure proper focus on safety and to promote a proactive approach to safety.
• Works closely with Head of Quality to manage expectations for E+H Group Services’ Environmental and Sustainability initiatives.
• Manage incident investigations, root cause analysis and identification of corrective actions.
• May require travel to other Optical Analysis locations to support EHS program and initiatives.

What qualifications are needed?
• Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, environmental management, or related field and a minimum of 5 years of related experience, or a master’s degree in related field in lieu of extensive work experience.
• OSHA and/or similar EHS certification strongly desired.
• DOT HAZMAT training preferred.
• Requires an in-depth familiarity with OSHA requirements, EPA reporting, waste management including RCRA, safety management including behavior-based safety approach.
• Must have documented, or be able to maintain, training in all applicable EHS regulations as required by law or determined essential for this role by management.
• This individual must be able to work independently without supervision and be able to interact effectively with all levels of the organization both locally and at the corporate level. Represents the company at corporate functions.
• Demonstrated excellence in analytical and problem-solving skills, organizational skills, written and verbal communication skills with a keen attention to detail.
• Must be able to use or learn current software programs such as Microsoft Office and SAP.
