The Department of Environmental Protection, Bureau of Remediation & Waste Management (BRWM), is seeking to fill an Environmental Hydrogeologist vacancy in Portland. BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION:This position provides professional environmental geologic expertise in support of BRWM’s remediation programs, mainly focusing on the Petroleum, VRAP, Brownfields, and PFAS programs. The position characterizes, monitors, and assists in the remediation of environmental contamination utilizing the technical disciplines of environmental geology and hydrogeology. The position assists in the development of policies, guidance documents, and regulations through collaboration with DEP staff. The position provides technical advice and assistance to other DEP bureaus and state agencies, as well as the public. The position oversees all aspects of the remediation of petroleum sites, including planning and conducting fieldwork, maintaining sampling equipment, and scheduling and managing various contractors. Work includes equal parts of office and fieldwork and is performed under limited supervision. Preference will be given to candidates with the following skills and experience: + Knowledge/experience in developing risk-based Conceptual Site Models. + Knowledge/experience of contaminant fate and transport in the subsurface. + Knowledge/experience in investigation and remediation of environmental contamination, including petroleum, hazardous substances, and PFAS. + Familiarity with GIS, statistical, geochemical, and data plotting software. + Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. + Ability to advance projects in order to meet project deadlines. + Ability to identify and analyze problems, reach logical conclusions, and make sound, cost-effective decisions.
