Environmental Intern (Summer 2025)

Great American's Environmental Division offers an exclusive focus on environmental insurance solutions to a wide variety of commercial customers. The core products and services enable businesses to effectively and efficiently manage risks that can threaten their financial security. The Division offers a complete portfolio of environmental insurance products, including contractor's and fixed premises pollution liability insurance products.

Our Environmental Division is currently seeking an Intern to join the Communications team. The internship is based in our downtown, Cincinnati Office.

The Communications team supports the division and its underwriters by providing timely, relevant and convenient marketing and communication resources for their current brokers/agents while also helping them grow their book of business.

Job Description

The program includes a combination of activities, aimed at giving the intern a full understanding of the Environmental Division. Activities may include:

Job shadowing

Reading assignments and case studies on various topics

Learn and perform functions related to communications support (technology and tools)

Research supporting information for the underwriting team via various systems

Assisting with tasks that support the underwriting process

Work closely with experienced marketers to learn customer service skills and standards

The Environmental intern will support the marketing team as outlined below:

Assist with various business development initiatives including:

Relationship Management: Salesforce system management and reporting

Events and Conferences: venue research, manage booking reservations for any upcoming broker meetings or events

Manage divisional calendars of events on various platforms

Research potential industry awards and events

Support planning for industry conferences and divisionally-hosted events

Contribute to various marketing and branding related initiatives including:

Content creation and management: compile monthly social posts and draft distribution emails, contribute to newsletter articles, podcast script writing

Research technical topics for potential articles and presentations

Analysis: Industry trends and competitive intelligence research

Assist in management of SharePoint site pages

Perform other duties as assigned:

Attend various divisional meetings to observe/learn market intel and insights

Prepare meeting minutes as needed; Creating status reports on work efforts

Preparing documentation for quick cards and other help tools

Tracking and analysis of key marketing metrics

Opportunity to meet with various senior managers throughout internship

Various administrative tasks

Job Requirements

Ability to work 40 hours a week in the summer

Potential for internship to continue remote or hybrid, part-time in fall and spring semesters

Education: Actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree;

Field of Study: Insurance and Risk Management, Business, Marketing, Chemistry, Biology or Geology

Strong analytical and communication skills, a high comfort level with technology, an understanding of the insurance industry and have a desire to learn on the job.

Must have strong organizational skills as one works with different areas of Marketing, other departments and third-party vendors to coordinate efforts and manage the production and distribution of content and products.

Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and intermediate Excel skills.  

Desired but not a requirement:

Experience in providing strategic and analytical support through data mining, competitive intelligence, surveys, statistical analysis and other qualitative and quantitative research techniques.

Experience in Salesforce, social media analytics tools, Tableau, etc. is a plus
