This lab provides analyses on samples ranging from source water, drinking water, and wastewater to power plant cooling tower water, groundwater and even soil. The Laboratory Services team, which consists of 30 employees with both utility and analytical experience, supports Colorado Springs Utilities’ core value of providing safe and reliable services to our rate payers. In support of regulatory compliance, we operate 365 days a year with over 12,000 samples collected and analyzed annually. **_*This position is full-time hours, 40/week, from May 27th-August 15th and part-time hours, approximately 20 hours per week, during the school year. The position can be flexible to support a student’s school schedule._** In this Internship you will gain experience in the following areas: + Provide a supporting role in generating accurate and quality data + Support Environmental Scientists with sample preparation for a variety of analyses + Work within regulatory requirements for the Clean Water and Safe Drinking Water Acts + Weighing, measuring, pipetting and other basic laboratory duties + Basic water analysis including pH, Turbidity and Alkalinity + Clean glassware according to method specifications + Help support safe laboratory practices **Who You Are..** .Prospective interns must be in an undergraduate or graduate degree program pursuing Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science or a related discipline. Preferred candidates will have completed one year of general chemistry and have prior experience in a laboratory setting. This individual should be a critical thinker, who can extract information from data while maintaining strong attention to quality, detail, and accuracy.
