Environmental Laboratory Manager

Primary Purpose

Manages all sampling and internal testing for water and wastewater facilities. This will include the scheduling of the outside laboratory for all regulatory sampling of water, wastewater, groundwater, stormwater and surface water based on permit requirements. The Environmental Laboratory Manager will be required to manage the composite sampler, the pickup schedule and the sampling of all required testing. Internal testing of both the water and wastewater systems to maintain operational control along with the internal reporting and the transfer of the regulatory reporting information to the Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMR) will be required.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

Responsible for maintaining lab procedures, equipment and testing of all process control samples for both the water and wastewater facilities. Will also be responsible for maintaining the laboratory budget. Required to schedule and sample all regulatory required parameters. Must also schedule all groundwater, stormwater, soil and surface water sampling and testing with outside labs. Trains wastewater operators on required process control sampling and testing. Meets regularly to review and report testing results to Water and Wastewater management. Must schedule and test the annual required quality assurance samples for reporting to DNREC on the Annual Report and must be able to transpose and report required regulatory reporting to the Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMR). This position will also be responsible for maintaining proper inventory of all laboratory testing supplies to complete all necessary testing. Ensure all safety rules and protocols are followed and maintained.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in a Microbiology or related Biology or Life Science field is a plus. High school diploma required. 3 - 5 years' water and/or wastewater operations and laboratory experience. DE Wastewater License and/or DE Water License a plus. Sampling certification required. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent organizational and communication skills. Experience in the poultry or food processing industry preferred. Some Saturday work required.
