This is an exciting opportunity to join the growing environmental business line within Fugro Iraq as an Environmental Laboratory Microbiologist. This position is based in Basra, Iraq, on a rotational basis, and you will work under the supervision of the Environmental Laboratory Manager.

Job Description:

Perform microbiological testing of water samples to identify and measure pathogens, including bacteria, viruses, and protozoa.Hands-on experience proper collection, preservation, and transportation of water samples to maintain their integrity.Develop new microbiological methods and protocols to improve laboratory capabilities for water sample analysis.Conduct validation and measurement uncertainty studies for microbiological parameters in the lab.Implement quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of microbiological analyses.Hands-on experience in preparing and storing media and other reagents required for microbiological analysis.Perform daily, weekly, and monthly checks according to ISO/APHA methods.Conduct media efficacy checks, standardization, and sterility checks as assigned by the section in-charge or Lab Manager.Calibrate and verify instruments internally as instructed by the Section In-Charge or Lab Manager.Maintain a clean laboratory environment at all times.Adhere to international standard ISO/IEC 17025, local government requirements, GLP, and other relevant laboratory safety standards.Conduct risk assessments to identify potential sources of contamination and develop mitigation strategies.Notify the Lab Manager of non-conformances and assist with follow-up actions.

Required Skills:

BS/MSc in Microbiology.Minimum 2 years experience in the Microbiology Laboratory.Should have knowledge in international standard ISO/IEC 17025:2017.Good communication skills.Basic computer knowledge in Microsoft Excel & Word.
