This entry level role will involve increasing responsibility with a focus on developing onsite technical experience and technical writing skills to support client facing on-site assessments. This position requires a bachelor's degree in a related field such as environmental sciences, engineering, and/or architecture. This role must be able to leverage prior educational background and technical expertise gained through formal training and on-the-job experience. This position will involve travel to client project sites.
The Project Assessor in Training will participate in a 1- to 3-month training program to develop technical expertise, onsite assessment skills, and project writing proficiency. During the initial training period, the Project Assessor in Training will shadow experienced Project Assessors, observing and assisting with data collection, measurements, and project documentation at client sites. This individual will be trained to review available previous assessment reports, historical and regulatory records for the property and for the surrounding area and reports data in accordance with ASTM criteria and client’s scope of work, making all reasonable efforts to identify the historical use of the property and surrounding properties using their specialized knowledge.
After the initial training period, the Project Assessor in Training will transition into a Project Assessor role, responsible for leading the completion and understanding the outcome of all assigned building assessment projects and related services. This work will be carried out in accordance with ASTM standards and/or client-specific scopes of work, and under the guidance of senior professionals.
To excel in this role, one will leverage their knowledge of buildings, construction, and technical standards obtained through prior educational experience, as well as the technical training provided by Bureau Veritas. One will be required to discuss and inquire about relevant information regarding the assigned project site with the site contact and associated municipal facilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other job-related duties may be assigned in conformance with state and federal regulations.
Technical report writing duties and responsibilities include: 1st month: Review technical reports relevant to job to understand how to navigate different writing templates and platforms, comprehend the technical components of a complete report, and evaluate various scopes of work provided and conveyed by different services. Prepare mock reports of prior subject properties with provided field data that will be reviewed and discussed by Technical Trainer regarding completion and quality. Participate in peer-review exercises with senior Project Assessors to receive feedback and further understanding of technical writing concepts. 2nd and 3rd months: Prepare mock reports on on-sites conducted while shadowing senior Project Assessors, using field data gathered and prepared by themselves. Mock reports are reviewed and discussed by Technical Trainer regarding completion and quality. As available, participate in peer-review exercises with the senior Project Assessors previously shadowed to receive feedback and further understanding of on-site applications and technical writing concepts. Prepares a written report (using a computer, iPad, or other electronic device) that accurately describes onsite findings, taking into consideration any specialized client scope requirements using information collected from the onsite assessment, including field notes, photographic documentation of the site, interviews with property owners, occupants, key site personnel and local government officials to write the report. Reviews pertinent property records as furnished by Client and/or property contact. Documented information can consist of prior technical reports, regulatory agency records, project contact supplied leasing literature, receipts from repairs and/or improvements, pending proposals, schedule of landlord’s responsible operating expenses, available relevant construction drawings, etc. Reviews repair/improvement costs incurred by tenants/ownership along with the following documents (if available): certificate(s) of occupancy, maintenance reports and logs, elevator safety inspection reports, Building and Fire Department inspection reports, and warranty information. Able to modify scope and technical writing needs based on the scope of work or service being executed, which will vary widely from project to project based on the property being assessed, the geographic location and site conditions.
Onsite assessment duties and responsibilities include: Shadow senior Project Assessors to gain hands-on experience with on-site inspections and report preparation to accurately describe onsite assessment findings. Conducts onsite building assessments relevant to technical training curriculum. Physically survey and assess all accessible and visible major building equipment and systems (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing), structure and foundations, representative interiors, common areas, exterior walls, windows, flat roofs, low-sloped roofs, and pavement for the purpose of identifying significant physical deficiencies and or environmental risks, along with the ability to accurately identify client/project specific needs. Collects types and quantities of equipment and systems present, and measures areas and lengths to adequately justify estimated costs to replace or remedy physical deficiencies and to estimate replacement reserve expenditures. Conduct interviews with the owner (or their on-site representative), tenants, service providers, local government agencies, and other individuals knowledgeable about the subject property. Provides photographic documentation of the site in manner sufficient for scope and service.
Able to leverage prior educational background with technical expertise/training and judgment when executing the project plan and assessment. Demonstrate proactive project-by-project communication across the leadership team and keeps all informed of any actual or potential issues, including continuing updates of when reports will be e-mailed/shipped to the production team. Will provide other technical and logistical support as needed to the technical teams in the following areas: Assembles scopes of work and required documents for Project Assessors. Notifies project site Point of Contact and coordinates onsite specifics for Project Assessors. Coordinates the project information with various contractors. Maintains, organizes and properly distributes all incoming client-supplied material and reports. Gathers and procures regulatory information and code information when required. Produces selected departmental deliverables, including but not limited to CAD drawings. Develops and maintains internal technical reference and estimating library. Assists in coordination and selection of subcontracted specialty consultants and related database. Provides general assistance to other department staff as needed. Additional specific tasks may include: Summary matrices Client Edits (the grunt edits) Municipal Research Follow up on municipal research per client request Update reports with new info (RFI Responses, warranties, invoices, etc.) Auditing report content – Checking reports in Quire for standard missing information Protocol Checklists (learning & helping to create) Procedures Cost table updates

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to operate an electronic tablet in the field for live data collection.
