The Position Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs. Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action; OR incumbents serve as the technical scientific expert for a bureau within the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. This Environmental Scientist IV position will supervise staff and manage all aspects of the Underground Injection Control Branch in the Bureau of Water Pollution Control. This position will be in the Reno office. The primary duties will be: function as a first-line supervisor that trains, supervises and evaluates the performance of assigned staff that will include engineers, and environmental scientists; assign and review work including writing individual and general permits and inspection scheduling; verify compliance with regulations and permits and initiate enforcement, as appropriate; and prepare technical guidance documents to assist the regulated community and regulation revisions. Special Requirements A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Additional Position Criteria This recruitment is only open to current classified employees in state service with at least six months of continuous, full-time equivalent service.
