Your Opportunity

An opportunity exists in our Laurel or Baltimore, MD office for an Environmental Scientist to work on a variety of projects supporting environmental permitting in Maryland and throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region. As an environmental scientist you would be actively involved in natural resources (forest, wetlands, rare threatened, and endangered species) surveys and support environmental documentation and permitting. You will work with a multidisciplinary team on infrastructure, utilities, and site development projects in Maryland and the throughout the Mid-Atlantic.

Your Key Responsibilities

Perform research, conduct environmental analyses (field and desktop), develop recommendations, and prepare technical reports under NEPA including environmental impact statements (EISs), Environmental Assessments (EAs) and Categorical Exclusions (CEs). Background research and data reviews. Assist with and prepare portions of written reports, tables, spreadsheets, databases, and presentations for client and regulatory agency review. Record, enter, organize, manage, and analyze data. Conduct Field studies. Preparing reports summarizing periodic environmental monitoring in accordance with permit requirements. Compiling and interpreting analytical data. Coordinating and communicating effectively with colleagues, clients, subcontractors, and regulators.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

Technical writing experience. An interest in data analysis, permitting, and policy and regulations. The ability to solve problems using critical thinking and to complete tasks with consideration to their own and the team's safety. A positive attitude in all working conditions is key. Strong verbal and written communication skills, including exceptional MS Office skills. Ability to lead agency and client coordination. Strong attention to detail. Experienced at working well in a team atmosphere and independently as required. Must have the willingness to learn new skills. Conscientious, organized, and disciplined. Valid driver’s license, a good driving record, and willingness to travel occasionally.

Education and Experience

The ideal candidate will have at minimum, a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental studies, environmental engineering, planning, geography, natural resources, or related field with demonstrated experience with biological surveys in the Mid-Atlantic region. Technical writing experience. Experience of 0-3 years is desired.

Additional Information Salary Range(s): Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s): Location Description: Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in CO and HI and MD Min Pay Range: $52,400 Max Pay Range: $73,400 Note: The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
