The Role: We are seeking an Environmental Scientist or Planner to join our team of talented environmental professionals in our Thunder Bay office. The successful applicant will support the team in a diverse range of environmental and social management matters including baseline studies, environmental and social impact assessment, permitting and approval applications, undertaking of audits and development of environmental management systems, predominantly within the infrastructure, natural resources, mining, power and energy sectors.

Your challenges with us!

Contribute to baseline environmental studies, environmental assessments, environmental management strategies, and plans including research, report writing, field work, and stakeholder and regulatory consultation. Collect and synthesize scientific literature, existing data sets and secondary source material for technical reports. Identify potential environmental impacts as a result of land use changes and recommend suitable mitigation strategies to avoid and / or reduce potential impacts. Support permitting, and approvals related to the natural environment (e.g., Environmental Protection Act, Fisheries Act, Impact Assessment Act). Maintain an up to date knowledge of existing and emerging regulatory requirements, wildlife and vegetation assessment methodologies, and best practices. Coordinate work with other environmental specialists (e.g., noise, air, archaeology, heritage, fisheries, terrestrial ecologists, etc.) Deliver high-quality environmental services to agreed budgets and deadlines

Your profile:

A Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Environmental Planning, Geography, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, or equivalent in related discipline. 0-5 years of experience working in a fast-paced, consulting environment; experience working in the field is an asset. Knowledge of natural heritage policies, protocols and environmental legislation and of environmental and social impact assessment process; knowledge of environmental and social due diligence is an asset. Flexibility to travel periodically. Knowledge of French an advantage. Excellent verbal and written communications skills and demonstrated ability to develop personal networks and work collaboratively. Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary and integrated team environment. Interest in continuous learning and commitment to personal accountability. Ideally eligible to hold CAN-CISEC and MTO RAQs certification.
