Environmental Specialist 1
Johnson Service Group (JSG) is a nationally recognized professional staffing and recruiting firm that is currently looking for a degreed Environmental Specialist to fill a 3 year assignment in Calera, Alabama. 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field. Minimum of 3 Years of experience in environmental compliance, regulatory affairs, or sustainability leadership. The Level 1 Environmental Specialist will be responsible for assisting in environmental compliance, regulatory affairs, and developing and implementing sustainability initiatives. You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with environmental regulations, minimize environmental impacts, and drive sustainable practices. This position requires a basic knowledge of environmental regulations, project management skills, and the ability to provide environmental collaboration within the organization. Responsibilities: Environmental Compliance: Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, including air quality, water quality, waste management, and hazardous materials handling. Conduct environmental audits and assessments to identify compliance gaps and recommend corrective actions. Stay updated on evolving environmental regulations and proactively implement necessary changes. Regulatory Affairs: Interact with regulatory agencies, respond to inquiries, and facilitate permit applications, renewals, and reporting. Maintain a comprehensive understanding of environmental laws and regulations relevant to the industry and provide guidance to the organization. Develop and help manage relationships with regulatory agencies and industry associations. Sustainability Initiatives: Participate in the development and implementation of sustainability programs, including energy efficiency, waste reduction, and carbon footprint reduction. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate sustainability practices into daily operations. Track and report on sustainability metrics (KPI's) and progress towards environmental goals. Environmental Risk Management: Assess and mitigate environmental risks associated with company operations. Oversee emergency response plans for environmental incidents. Provide training and guidance to employees on environmental best practices and safety protocols. Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a point of contact for environmental inquiries from stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, and community members. Foster positive relationships with environmental advocacy groups and community organizations. Qualifications: working knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations and permitting processes. Project management skills with the ability to participate in a team setting on multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. Effective communication and interpersonal skills to engage with stakeholders. Proficiency in environmental management software and data analysis tools. Professional certifications (e.g., Certified Environmental Professional, Certified Hazardous Materials Manager) are a plus This position may require some bending, lifting, climbing, prolonged sitting, prolonged walking, walking on gravel or crawling when necessary.
