Overview Environmental Specialist I Requires the fundamental understanding of the principles, concepts, and methods of environmental protection program work. Must demonstrate the ability to apply this knowledge while performing a variety of duties involving the assistance with coordination and/or monitoring, of projects, or activities. Environmental Specialist II Requires moderate knowledge and understanding of program principles and procedures applicable to a wide range of duties in one or more programs and/or functional area, and a moderate level of skill in applying this knowledge while solving complex problems involving diverse aspects of environmental protection. Environmental Specialist III Requires extensive knowledge and understanding of program principles and procedures applicable to a wide range of duties in one or more programs and/or functional area, and a high level of skill in applying this knowledge while solving complex problems involving diverse aspects of environmental protection. Environmental Specialist IV Requires extensive knowledge and skill in project management and coordination. Collects, processes, evaluates, and summarizes scientific and technical data and ideas to make effective decisions and develop appropriate solutions. Also assists with the identification of additional sources of funding, developing grants, and administering work plans. Qualifications EDUCATION REQUIREMENT Bachelor's degree from a 4-year college or university preferably in Environmental Management, Sustainability, Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Health Geology or Physical Science; or six (6) years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience Environmental Specialist I EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT No additional experience is required. Environmental Specialist II EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT At least one (1) year of experience in a related field. Environmental Specialist III EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT At least five (5) years of experience in a related field. Environmental Specialist IV EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT An additional seven (7) years of experience in a related field is required. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating. May be required to travel to training events, conferences, and temporary work locations. Additional licenses and/or certifications may be required depending on work and funding agency requirements. OTHER QUALIFICATIONS The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE). Must possess basic computer, technical writing, and communication skills. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts; in outside weather conditions; is exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals; in extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
