This primary function is to provide 24-hour, 7 day a week "skilled trade" maintenance support to the manufacturing, research and development laboratories, warehouses, and office facilities that make up Abbott Park and its associated owned and leased Lake County facilities. The Environmental Technician deals with testing and repair of Clean Room Filtration, Bio Hoods, Clean Air Centers, Recirculation HEPA Filter Units and Chemical and Radiological Fume Hoods. Performs routine filter tests and installation and maintenance work on all aspects of HVAC Environmental System Equipment. Will develop areas of expertise on certain systems and equipment as training and work experience dictate. **What You’ll Work On** + Exercise’s ability and job knowledge to independently perform and understand hardware, operating systems, and maintenance work on a variety of HVAC equipment and systems including production, lab, and facility equipment. + Exercise’s ability and job knowledge to perform trouble analysis and repair of various environmental systems equipment in accordance with written policy and procedures. Systems include Clean Room Filtration, Biosafety Cabinets, Clean Air Centers, Recirculation HEPA Filter Units and Chemical and Fume Hoods + Work includes troubleshooting, ordering parts and installation of parts and material on equipment such as fractional horsepower motors, unit circulation fans, basic electrical devices associated with the control of air handling units + Perform preventive maintenance work as assigned and utilize multi-skill capabilities and expertise to do other assigned work tasks. Order materials and parts from the stockroom and initiate work orders. + Must read and comprehend Global Engineering Services (GES) BOPs and will be responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures. . Must possess an understanding of HVAC theory and applications. + Must know how to use a full complement of mechanics hand tools, test equipment such as multimeters, flow hoods, photometers, aerosol generator, hot wire manometer, and various power tools, etc. Must have the ability to understand basic schematic drawings on mechanical parts. + Must be able to read and understand HVAC Building prints/shop drawings. + Must know basic CMMS functions and how to use various inquiries pertaining to maintenance activities. + Assists in ensuring that cGMP and safe work policies and procedures are followed and maintained at all times in accordance with established company policies and Abbott Engineering Standards. Position requires clear/concise/neat documentation of maintenance activities performed. **Accountability / Scope:** + Failure to check, maintain, and/or operate systems according to quality assurance specifications would jeopardize product integrity and place Abbott in noncompliance with government agencies, including EPA FDA. + Errors in shut-down of equipment or opening switches inappropriately could result in electrical equipment shutdown and resultant product losses in hundreds of thousands of dollars. Accidentally energizing electrical/mechanical systems and/or equipment could have life or death implications. + Failure to schedule maintenance work with Production Management could have an adverse impact on customers’ operations/production. + Need to adhere to operating instructions and/or safety policies could result in bodily injury and/or fatalities, property losses through fires, explosions, and chemical releases to self and others. + Errors in shut-down process to bio exhaust and clean room facilities, for example, could cause system shutdowns which would create immediate hazards to an individual. + Closing valves inappropriately could result in production and/or facility equipment shutdown and result in product losses in hundreds of thousands of dollars. **Required Qualifications** + Must have a high school education or equivalent. + An understanding of applied environmental system theory and hands on work experience in a commercial or industrial work environment is preferred. + 3+ years of formal training and work experience/responsibility in the field of commercial or industrial HVAC system maintenance. This experience must indicate proficiency in all aspects of maintenance of HVAC system equipment including the demonstrated ability to work well with others in a commercial and/or industrial work environment. + Ability to complete minimal yearly a mask fit test. + Weekend Work availability – Due to Lab needs and accessibility.
