Position Overview

Davey Resource Group Inc. (DRG), is seeking persons interested in natural resources careers, as an Environmental Technician.  DRG provides a full array of horticultural, ecological stewardship, lakeshore, ravine, streambank, bluff restoration as well as traditional landscape maintenance to clients in the private and public sectors throughout the Midwest.

Job Duties

The Environmental Technician will provide our government, utility, commercial and not-for-profit clients with the services and solutions needed to efficiently and effectively manage natural resources, comply with policies and obtain regulatory permits. Job duties include, but are not limited to:

Understanding the contract needs and specifications of clients and their customers and develop appropriate solutions. Inspect a wide range of habitats, both natural and disturbed, and assess their condition, health and functionality according to client specifications. Identify local species, understand their typical characteristics and recognize common diseases and pests Qualifications

Position Description and Responsibilities Duties: Selected candidates will work collaboratively as part of a team. Position involves a variety of work, including invasive plant species control, native plant and seed installation, streambank, lake shore, ravine, and bluff stabilization and restoration, prescribed burning, traditional landscape management, installations and other types of habitat restoration. The position is full time, but depends on workload and weather conditions. The majority of work is outdoors, often in inclement weather and in rugged terrain, and may involve using heavy equipment, such as spray rigs, backpack sprayers, augers, chain saws, mowers, etc...

Desired qualifications: Possession of or be willing to obtain an Illinois Department of Agriculture Certified Pesticide Applicators License is required. Prescribed burn experience and S130/S190 certification, and native plant identification a plus. Training in chain saw, brush saw, and 4x4 ATV/UTV is beneficial. A degree in biology, botany, ecology, conservation, environmental science, or related fields is preferred, but not required.

Candidates must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs and Google. Applicants must possess a valid driver's license, have a good driving record, and be able to report directly to the work site.  We are seeking teamwork-oriented individuals with excellent written and oral communication skills, professional work ethic with attention to detail and safety.

Additional Information

Start times are 6:00am, if reporting to the office or 7:30am if reporting directly to a site. End times vary depending on the day’s assignment. Work is 100% field based. Typical work week is Monday through Friday, approximately 9 hours a day (this includes travel if reporting to an office). The burn season is weather dependent and may require weekend work.
A normal work day consists of: reporting to the office at set time, participating in daily stretches, assisting with loading supplies and equipment, riding in a company vehicle to worksite, performing/achieving worksite’s daily goal, riding back to the office and assisting with unloading.
