**Job Summary**
The Environmental Technician will provide field support for AEP projects prior to and during construction. The Technician will work with the Project Environmental Permit Management (PEPM) team from their region to provide environmental permit and compliance support of electric transmission, telecom, distribution and regional workplace services projects. Responsibilities include supporting permit specialists in conveyance of permit conditions to Transmission Construction Representatives (TCR’s), contractors and other field personnel including execution of training and advising on applicable environmental regulations and permit requirements.

The Environmental Technician should have a basic understanding of the following environmental programs. Key competencies for this position include technical expertise, ability to plan, organize and prioritize job assignments, problem solving, and strong written and oral communication skills.
+ NPDES Construction Storm Water Permits
+ State & Local Permits for Erosion & Sediment Control
+ Floodplain Permits
+ Wetland Delineation Protocols
+ U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Permit Programs, including Section 10, Section 404 and Section 408
+ State Section 401 Programs and Permit Requirements
+ Threatened & Endangered Species
+ Cultural Resources
Essential Job Functions & Tasks:
+ Coordinate and implement all environmental field activities and support in the assigned region(s) to ensure compliance with environmental laws and permits.
+ Be aware of and adhere to AEP company policies, Standards and Standard Work.
+ Provide input and assistance to Environmental Services and PEPM on the development of Company environmental policies and procedures.
+ Provide training instruction and assistance to others on the implementation of environmental permit requirements and assist in the development of training materials when needed.
+ Promote and enforce safe work practices to protect employees, contractors, the general public and Company facilities (See Something, Say Something, Do Something).
+ Provide field support during environmental compliance reviews, internal audits, agency or regulatory site inspections, pre-bid and pre-con meetings and PEPM team meetings.
+ Maintain all environmental documents and records in accordance with environmental content management standards.
**Basic Qualifications:**
+ Associate degree with 3 years' of experience or bachelor's degree with no experience required (but is preferred) Degrees must be in an environmental, science, or related discipline or the candidate must have previous military experience.
+ Valid state driver’s license
Physical demand is considered light duty.
Additional Requirements
+ Travel time ranges from 80-90% and will include overnight stays as necessary to support project activities in the field. Overnight stays and meals reimbursed per Company policy.
+ Work Hours – Minimum of 40 hours per week (Monday-Friday) with some overtime possible
+ Overtime – Job duties should be completed during a regular 40-hour week when possible; however, environmental emergency situations and other circumstances may require overtime or weekend hours with management approval
