Environmental Technician

Reporting to the Environmental, Health and Safety Manager, the technician will assist with meeting regulatory and operational compliance requirements for the mill, through inspection and maintenance oversight of environmental and fire protection systems. Duties and Responsibilities: • Monthly and quarterly water sample collection and transport by vehicle • Daily, weekly, and monthly environmental inspections and recordkeeping to assure compliance with regulatory pollution prevention measures • Operational oversight of facility water treatment systems • Inspection, check-ups, recordkeeping, and maintenance scheduling for mill fire protection systems. • Complete audits and report out as required • Weekly review of boiler paperwork and submission to designated third parties • Quarterly preparation of DMRs as well as other reporting requirements. • Transporting samples by vehicle. Travel to other Hunt properties to complete inspections and sampling • Perform any additional duties required by supervisors. • Interacts with others and performs work in a professional manner. • Follow all company safety rules and PPE use. • Follow all company rules and procedures regarding daily work activity. Requirements: • High school diploma or equivalent minimum; higher education and/or certifications preferred. • Must be mechanically inclined and have experience with tools; as some work requires immediate repair. • A high level of organization, computer skills (Excel, Word) and strong written, business communications experience. • Ability to visually utilize equipment necessary for water analysis. • Must have a clear driving record and valid driver's license as there is required travel using company vehicle. (Travel is not overnight) • Must be willing to work shifts Monday - Friday; however, working nights, weekends, holidays and on call will be required from time-to-time. • Must successfully pass pre-employment testing and background check if given a conditional job offer. Physical and Safety Requirements: (This is a safety sensitive position) • Ability to work in an industrial environment that includes heat, cold, noise and strong smell of pine. • Safely operate assigned tools and equipment. • Safely maneuver around moving machinery, uneven ground, steps, ladders and stairs. • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted. • Adherence to consistent hydration schedule. • Ability to lift, push, pull and have exposure to various weights of veneer, plywood, landscape timbers, bark and sawdust. • Ability to lift over shoulder/head height • Ability to stoop, walk, stand, push, pull, bend, kneel, climb as to demonstrate a range of motion needed to complete assigned work during 12-hour shifts. • Must be able to hear, read and see directions; instructions, displays and/or signals. • Clearly communicate safety and environmental issues, or concerns, as they appear.
