Environmental Technician
**The Opportunity:** Our team is growing, and as a result WSP’s Earth & Environment group is currently seeking a Junior to Intermediate Environmental Technician to join our Environment team in Windsor, Ontario. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting field work related to groundwater and surface water monitoring, wastewater and landfill gas monitoring, soil sampling, including field observations for municipal and private facilities. Additionally, the successful candidate will develop comprehensive spreadsheets and figures as part of data interpretation for inclusion in detailed reports. The WSP Environment team consists of a dynamic team of environmental engineers, geoscientists, engineers/geoscientists in training, and environmental technologists/technicians with strong technical skills and existing client relationships. (https://www.wsp.com/en-CA/careers/notice-to-staffing-agencies) **A day in the life:** + Complete landfill compliance monitoring and landfill gas monitoring; + Assisting with compliance monitoring programs, Phase I, II and III Environmental Site Assessments, detailed site assessments, spill assessments and clean-up, and groundwater monitoring; + Prepare and adhere to site-specific health and safety plans to mitigate or eliminate risks to you, WSP clients, employees and the public; + Maintain excellent field notes on the collection and handling of water and soil samples while adhering to industry standards and regulatory requirements; + Carry out fieldwork as per site specific workplans which could include groundwater monitoring, surface water monitoring, soil sampling, test pit excavations, drilling investigations, surveying; + Carry out office assignments under the direction of senior staff including data compilation and analysis; + Supervise subcontractors for ground disturbance and utility location, surveying, borehole / groundwater well installation and test pit excavations; + Prepare and coordinate project documentation, subcontractors and equipment for field programs; + Complete equipment calibration and maintenance; + Collection and documentation of pertinent field data according to industry standards and WSP protocols and procedures; + Communicating with clients, service companies, laboratories, government and partners regarding project tasks; + Assist with the preparation of technical reports; + Ensure implementation of corporate and client safety programs on all projects; + Ability to work independently with minimal supervision or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. **What you’ll bring to WSP …** + 0 - 3 years in environmental consulting with field experience ideal; + Technical diploma in environmental sciences/technology, or a related discipline; + A positive and enthusiastic attitude, willingness to learn, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work individually or in a team environment; + Awareness of health and safety issues and a safety conscious attitude; + Interpersonal and communication skills with particular attention to detail and accuracy of field notes; + A valid driver’s license; + Previous experience with groundwater and soil sampling is an asset; + Working knowledge and proficiency in the use, calibration and maintenance of field monitoring equipment such as water quality meters, gas meters, sampling pumps, etc.; + Willingness to perform physically demanding work in various weather conditions.
