Responsibilities

The Environmental Technician will support Pattern Energy’s Environmental Compliance and Conservation Team. The Environmental Compliance and Conservation team is responsible for identifying and managing risk, environmental compliance, and continual improvement opportunities for Pattern’s operating assets in North America. Specifically, the Environmental Technician will support onsite environmental compliance for Pattern’s operating renewable energy and transmission projects in New Mexico and Arizona. The Environmental Technician will be responsible for implementing environmental operations plans, and ensuring environmental compliance obligations are met, with specific focus in the subject areas of site reclamation, stormwater management, vegetation, spill response and plan management, air, and wildlife. 

 Key Accountabilities

The key accountabilities will include, as a minimum, the following:

Supporting the implementation of site-specific environmental compliance obligations, including compliance with state and federal environmental regulations for operating wind and transmission facilities in New Mexico and Arizona. Working directly with site teams and consultants to ensure successful completion of site reclamation, including stormwater and ongoing vegetation management.Assisting site teams with spill response, reporting, and plan management.Responding to, and reporting, wildlife incidents. Implementation and oversight of strategies or best management practices to mitigate environmental impacts.Ensure environmental compliance documentation and records are complete and kept up to date. Coordinating onsite project environmental consultants.Establishing and maintaining sustainable relationships and good communications with consultants, vendors, sub-contractors, and project stakeholders.Attending agency meetings as needed, and supporting strategy meetings in preparation.Providing environmental training and support to site staff. Conduct internal compliance assessments and develop continual improvement recommendations.Other projects as assigned.Applicants should be based in New Mexico or Arizona (or willing to relocate). Travel will be required, primarily among Pattern’s operating facilities in New Mexico and Arizona. Travel to other locations in North America will be required on occasion. Qualifications

Experience/Qualifications/Education Required

 

Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, natural resources, ecology or a related field or 2+ years of relevant work experience. in environmental monitoring and management for construction and/or operations of wind energy or transmission projects.Experience overseeing vegetation management and reclamation, Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans, and best management practices. Familiarity with state and federal environmental natural resource management related regulations, e.g. National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Migratory Birds Treaty Act (MBTA), Clean Water Act (CWA).Experience with field use of ArcGIS is preferred.Working knowledge of Windows-based business software applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.Must possess strengths in the following:Demonstrated problem solving skills. Ability to work independently to meet deliverables.Strong time management and organizational skills.Creativity in problem solving and analytical skills.High level of attention to detail.Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.

 

The expected starting pay range for this role is $86,000 - $108,000 USD. This range is an estimate and base pay may be above or below the ranges based on several factors including but not limited to location, work experience, certifications, and education. In addition to base pay, Pattern’s compensation program includes a bonus structure for full-time employees of all levels.
