Job Description
Purpose & Scope:
Reporting to the Director of Business Intelligence and Integration, the Epic Clinical Business Intelligence Developer (BID) serves as a reporting resource for the Epic Cogito application and is responsible for building and managing clinical reporting across the enterprise. This individual analyzes, provide specifications for, and writes reports for assigned applications to support the needs of the Epic project team, clinical leadership, and other end users/ stakeholders. In the process, the BID will contribute to the uncovering of insights that drive improved patient care, quality and efficiency of operations, a data driven strategy, and optimal decision making for clinical leaders across the organization. The BID has the responsibility of reporting system support and maintenance, analysis, design, and change control of all components used to build and manage assigned reports, metrics, queries, extracts, dashboards, and other reporting tools. The BID will work closely with all levels of staff, leadership, and other clinical and operational end users to translate business needs into technical reporting requirements. The BID is responsible for validating existing foundation system reports and identifying and producing custom reporting content, optimization, and performance enhancement opportunities. Education:
Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, Business Administration, Information Systems or related field
OR
Clinical degree (RN, BSN, PharmD etc.) with master's degree or foreign equivalent degree in technical competency (i.e. Information Systems, Healthcare Informatics, Data Science, or related field, with US equivalency). Two or more years of applicable experience in a relevant technical field may be considered in place of an advanced degree.
Experience:
Required:
• Four or more years of progressive, post baccalaureate experience in a professional healthcare/hospital setting, working with business users in developing analytical solutions to meet clinical and operational/ business needs
• Three years or more demonstrated experience with relational database concepts, querying and/or analyzing clinical data, using SQL for data extraction, manipulation, and reporting. design, build, test, validation, and maintenance
• Training and some expertise with some of the following: OLAP, Oracle, SQL Server, T-SQL, PLSQL,XML, HTML, other query tools.
• Demonstrated competency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and/or Access
Preferred:
• One or more years of experience designing, building, testing, and supporting Epic reports for the clinical applications/ end users
• Experience with building reports for various Epic modules, especially Inpatient Clin/Doc Orders, ASAP, Ambulatory Healthy Planet, Willow, Stork, Beaker, Bugsy, Cadence, HIM
• Meaningful Use, Core Measures, eCQMs, Joint Commission, registries, and other quality measures and regulatory reporting a plus
• Experience with data analysis and visualization tools such as: Tableau, Crystal Reports, Business Objects Qlikview, Microsoft Power BI, etc.
• Previous clinical healthcare experience, ideally with a health system, highly desirable
• Experience using the Microsoft stack (SSRS, SSMS, SSIS, SSAS)
• Experience using a software package for statistical analysis (R, Python, SAS etc)
Certification/Licensure:
Epic Certification(s): Reporting preferred.
Other Qualifications
Epic Reporting Certifications preferred: Cogito, Clarity and Caboodle Data Model
If not already completed, must receive a passing score (as defined by Epic), within two attempts, on all required exams and projects (as defined by Epic) within 8 weeks after completion of training or within a pre-determined 8-week timeframe. Must maintain active certification throughout employment.
Other preferred certifications:
• Cogito and Cogito Tools Administration
• Certification in an Epic clinical application/ module (i.e. Inpatient Clin/Doc Orders, ASAP, Ambulatory Healthy Planet, Willow, Stork, Bugsy, Cadence, HIM), preferred.
• Clinical certification (RN, BSN, MSN, PharmD) a huge plus
